Kiryas Joel, NY - With all the challenges the kosher meat and poultry market has encountered in the last several years, the emergence of Kiryas Joel Poultry  (KJ) couldn’t have come at a better time. With their state-of-the-art processing plant in Monroe, NY, KJ Poultry has brought the quality of kosher poultry to a new level while concomitantly projecting unprecedented high standard of kashrus.

KJ Poultry’s concern for quality and health is evidenced by its raising antibiotic-free chickens.

KJ Poultry is unique in that it is Kehila (Kiryas Joel Community) owned, with a portion of proceeds going to Torah education.  KJ Poultry has a policy of pursuing every hiddur and stringency when it comes to the observance of Jewish Law. One of the many ways KJ Poultry displays their strict adherence to Torah law is by having many of its community members employed at the plant who are involved in every step of the process.

“We leave no stone unturned when it comes to the standards of kashrus as well as quality,” explains KJ Poultry’s General Manager, Joel Weiss.

It’s Sunday at Kiryas Joel Poultry and the plant looks every bit as it does on a Monday. It is abuzz with a full compliment of staff with a high ratio of community people, including mashgichim, shochtim, and rabbis to ordinary line workers. The Sunday slaughter of chickens, according to Weiss, assures that shelves in kosher groceries will be restocked as early as Sunday afternoon. Kosher consumers have long complained of empty shelves on Sundays and even Monday mornings as stores traditionally sell out many items for the Shabbos.

According to several grocers, despite the supply of several poultry brands, the Sunday slaughter is extremely important in stocking fresh poultry products early in the week. They say that items like poultry, beef and even milk are frequently in short supply come Sunday. One Boro Park store said that the delivery of KJ “chicken cutlets” and other poultry products on Sunday is extremely important. Kosher customers now have a choice of nearly 12 brands of the kosher fowl, most of which are under the Orthodox Union. KJ is also certified by Rabbi Getzel Berkowitz, the highly respected dayan (rabbinical judge) of Kiryas Joel.

If Reb Getzel is the baal hamcshir you may rest assured you're getting top of the line kashrus when eating these fowl.

the pland is under the Hashgacha of rav Meshulem Polatchek, a respected rav in williamsburg. rav Berkowitz told several people who asked him that he's not responsible for the Kashrus, although he goes down to check up once in a while.

how does it compare in taste to Empire? In a taste test held several years ago by the WSJ Empire bested all the non-kosher brands.

Let the kosher processing plant in Monroe operated by the Satmar Rov R' Aron Shlita's kehila stand as an example of chasidim who understand that the USDA rules for sanitary conditions are in their best interest. Let this article strongly contrast to the article about the Skver plant closed down for unsanitary conditions. Unsanitary conditions call into question the real validity of any kashrus claims for New Square products.

no.
giving hashgacha on the butcher involves two thins. 1. supervising work done in the butcher and 2. that only chicken from the KJ plant comes in to the butcher.

I live in KJ for many years and my family and I have a close relationship to Rav Getzil Berkowitz Shlit”a, the known Dayen of KJ.

Reb Getzil is the main Baal Machshir of the plant and his name his on every box chicken sold by KJ Poultry.

Rav Polatcheck is employed by Rabbi Berkowitz like the main Mashgiech etc. Polatcheck is making any Kashris decisions with Rav Berkowitz and – of course- with the grand rabbi, Rav Aron Teitelbaum Shlit”a who pioneered the plant.

Halacha makes clear that many things can happen to a chicken from a shlocthaus to the butcher. Unless the mashgiach stays with the chickens all the time, he cannot vouch for what terrible things the butcher may do or not do and therefore he can approve the butcher but not the shlachthaus and vice versa.

Sorry It makes no Sense . How can he allow KJ chickens in his store if he is not sure in approving them . Im sure he wouldnt allow Empire into the store even with a big sign stating that it was Empire . He obviously only allows chickens that he approves .

Rav Teitelbaum has no role whatsoever in supervising the hashgacha at this plant or any others and no longer involves himself in such routine matters. Please don't drag the Rav's name into this.

The Hashgucha goes like this:
The Rabbe Shlita is saying what to do, and making final dicisions on every Shaala, visits the Beis HaShachita weekly (even when he comes home from vacation, the 1st stop is the Beis HaShachita).
Then the Baal Machsher is the Dean Shlita, answer all the daily Shaalas.
The Mashgiach Temidi (means he is there all the time) is HaGuan Reb Meshilam Polotcheck Shlita.

What so hard to understand?
