David Paterson said Americans need to accept that safety can not be guaranteed and terrorism is more than just “horrible acts” – it’s being forced to wait on security lines at the airport.

“We are just living in a world where right now our enemies are willing practically to give up there lives to destroy hundreds of people and property and destabilize, which is what terrorism is – it’s the destabilization,” Paterson told WOR’s John Gambling.

“I think terrorism is that every time you go the airport you have to wait. That’s terrorism,” the governor continued. “It isn’t just the horrible attack on our country in 2001. And I think that for the time being, we’re just going to have to live with some very inconvenient security measures.”

Paterson voiced support for the employment of controversial body scan machines at airports, saying: “It’s the only way to guarantee that an airplane with 300 passengers will reach its destination.”

As much as I dislike Patterson I love him on this decision
As a matter of fact I was always thinking that there should be a xray machine that should look through the clothes for explosives.

Do they have any of the health dangers of other x-ray machines? Do they use radiation, etc?

No known dangers, not really x-ray.
Danger is a false sense of safety, even if nobody was paying attention or they electronically make the machine less sensitive because of peoples concaers.

El AL does not make you take off your shoes. El AL does not have restrictions on pillows and blankets. El AL terminal 4 at Kennedy airport in New York City is not even runned by the Port Authroity. El AL has complete control only at terminal 4.

So the fact they manage to profile and do other behind the scene security measure shows that they know what they are doing and that it works and thank g-d has not failed.

Enough with body scanner and pulling 80 year old woamn who are in wheel chairs and harasing them. Does Obama really think an 80 yeard old woman has the power to get out of her seat and threaten 300 people on an airplane?

Stop harrasing 78 year old men who have authritis and having them take off their shoes at the sirport.

Stop banning closed unopened water bottles. All the TSA does is confiscate the water bottles and re sell them at the closest store near the security lines.

He is so clueless. Here’s a newsflash, the terrorists will come up with something new. Not everything can be detected by these scanners. My fear is that it will create a false sense of security and they won’t be as vigilant as they need to be.

Hire Israeli security personnel, and stop hiring minimum wage Pakistani immigrants who aren’t paying any attention.

Sorry Mr Paterson but you have NO SAY in this. Airport security is under Federal (mis)management now and your opinion carries as much weight as any other citizen.

The facts are that they need to PROFILE. They also need to pay attnetion when they ask questions and not look off into the distance. There is a way to do this correctly.

And, yes, the body scans will help.

      Its about time they start;
1, Profile and interview every passenger.
2, Use dogs or sniffing equipment on every passenger.

The only way to prevent terrorism at airports is to refuse Muslims from flying.
