Dubai – An Arab ambassador had his marriage instantly annulled after he tried to remove the veil of his bride and discovered she had a beard and was cross-eyed.

The unnamed groom had never seen the woman’s face because she wore a niqab throughout their entire courtship, according to reports.

He freaked out after they signed the marriage contract in Dubai, canceled the reception and went right to an Islamic Sharia court.

He demanded the union be annulled, that $137,000 he’d spent on wedding gifts and expenses be returned, and the bride be examined for “hormonal deficiencies.”

“He was absolutely horrified,” said a wedding guest, according to London’s Daily Mail.

“The bride had a nice personality, but there was a good reason why she was hiding her looks behind a veil.

“A divorce was inevitable, and the groom went straight to court, leaving his new bride in floods of tears.”

The ambassador alleged that that his would-be mother-in-law had shown him pictures of his intended’s sister to trick him into marrying the homelier woman.

“Every time the couple met, the bride would do her best not to reveal her entire face,” a source close to the case told the local Gulf News this week.

The court granted the annulment but did not approve compensation.

A doctor who examined the jilted bride, who is also a doctor, did not find any medical reason for her facial hair.

The report did not identify the ambassador nor give any further details.

    A few questions remain unanswered:

    1) How stupid were the inlaws, thinking they’d be able to pull this off forever? I mean, it HAD to come out eventually, right? It’s not like she was on Prozac or something and they tried to pass her off without telling him (which some of meshelooni are admittedly guilty of).
2)Didn’t he notice she was cross eyed since her EYES weren’t covered with a veil?
    3) Why didn’t she at least SHAVE before the chassunah?

I think I was also at that chassinah but as I recall, the facts were slightly differeent: I believe it was the kallah who asked for the annullment.

    Raboisy,
Please let us not judge this woman harshly. At this trying time, we want to respect the Kallah’s privacy and that of her family. All she wanted was to be maikim a Bayis B’Dubai and nebach failed to impress upon her future husband the importance of a beard. Mi Keamcha Aravim, who even the noshim shlo tzidkonios want to be mekayaim mitzvos ”pe’as zekoncho lo tgalach” behidur.

Maybe with the passage of time this truly evil man will return. Vehushiv lev uvos al habunim.

If she’d have been smart, she would have waxed or shaved. Many women have this problem and those who care about their looks, do something about it. I think that even a Muslim should be allowed to see his intended bride before their wedding.

I think they need takunus for weddings in Dubai $137,000.? That’s high even for BP standards

    1) even by muslims who wear a veil, it is still allowed for a prospective groom to see a womans face if he intends to marry her. in this case she was deliberately decietful by not fully exposing her face stratigically.

    2) strict muslim women are not permited to trim their facial hair. They believe that they are prohibited from altering something allah created. No plucking eyebrowes or lashes. No nose jobs either.

    3) The groom did not get compensation because he was at fault for not verifying her looks before the wedding.

    4) After all is said and done, the way he humiliated her in public is a disgrace.

Please learn a muser haskel that chazal knew what they are doing…. As sometimes you can hear or think when you see these modest arabs with mask on the face, that they are more modest than the chasiddim.

This yakub of AbuDhabi is a slow learner. He should have listened to his granfather, yakub , who advised a bedecken. But No! They never listen. They definitely should learn not to trust prospective in-laws.

Guys, any of you interested in investing in depilatory shops in the Gulf.

How would uncovering the veil expose her cross eyedness. Did she wear veil eye patches too?
Something is fishy about this story.

The choson is a fool! The gemara says “hadras panim zu zakain” nothing more beautiful as a beard! It’s only muddeneh because he is not used to it but once you get used to the feel and texture it can be gantz geshmoch to play with the beard. He is a real nar, in my opinion. Also, crosseye is a morehdiga advantage because you get to speak to each eye separately, so its like getting the benefit of two wives. Once you speak to one eye, and an other time you speak to the other eye… A great deal – I certainly wouldn’t have passed up so quickly.

LeMeiseh, efsher she takkeh shaved, but since she was also crosseyed, a shtikkel beard got overlooked in the “blindspot?”. The chusen is a pruster menuuvel for being into the chitzoneyus and the dvarim gashmeeyim. This is a musser for us acheinu bnei yiroel – even if you have the beautiful peltz as a cover up, in the oilem haEmes tzeet men arup de hoizen, and men shmaased erein big time!

Hindu shidduchim have it all over a chassidishe shidduch. The families get together to decide if their children are good for each other. When the shidduch is made, they meet only one time, a month before the wedding.
