Plainfield, IN – Islamic Scholars Issue Fatwa Forbidding Muslim-Americans From Using full-body Airport Scanners

Plainfield, IN – A body of North American Islamic scholars has issued a fatwa, or religious decree, forbidding Muslims from passing through the devices.

“It is a violation of clear Islamic teachings that men or women be seen naked by other men and women,” the ruling, issued by The Fiqh Council of North America, states.

“Islam highly emphasizes haya (modesty) and considers it part of faith. The Quran has commanded the believers, both men and women, to cover their private parts.”

Another Muslim group, The Council on American-Islamic Relations, backed the proclamation.

“We support the Fiqh Council’s statement on full-body scanners and believe that the religious and privacy rights of passengers can be respected while maintaining safety and security,” Nihad Awad, national executive director of CAIR, told the Detroit Free Press.

The machines at issue render a detailed outline of the scanned individual’s body that the Transportation Security Administration says is immediately destroyed.

The TSA says going through the scanners is “optional to all passengers.” Individuals can refuse the screening, the newspaper reports, and instead be patted down by a TSA guard.

The employment of full-body scanners has come under fire from civil libertarians, who say the devices are analogous to a strip search.

So let me understand this…. The body scanners which were intended to keep radical Moslems from blowing up planes can only be used for non Moslems, who weren’t a threat to begin with? Am I missing something here?

…and Jewish Scholars should agree with the Islamic Scholars openly, and issue their own ruling saying the same thing. This is not only unconstitutional (I am going to go with Amendment 4, illegal search) it allows security agents to see through women’s clothing.
Also there hasn’t been a terrorist attack since 9/11 (B’H) and what is the threat level today? Red? None of the added security over the past decade have done anything to prevent terror attacks. I am starting to think the conspiracy kooks are right. All this terror is a hoax.

Geee…. I wonder why they don’t let them go thru…. Could it be that it’ll be harder for em to get their explosives on board? I think so!

OK … don’t get scanned, because of your Koil Koirei (L’havdil).
But then, don’t fly either and you won’t have the Nisoyoin of Loi Sosur (L’havdil).

I have a question for these “Dayonim/Poiskim”: Do none of your Farchnyokte people ever get X-Rayed and have the films seen by a doctor? If so, what is the difference between a doctor seeing this and a TSA employee? This “P’sak” sounds like it was written by a Chosid Shoiteh.

Perfect. This should reduce the number of Muslim terrorists who will fly on passenger airplanes.

Sure the people who are the reason why we have these machines and the biggest threat are the ones to make it forbidden for themselves to go through

There should be a ban against these Fiqh Council reshooim! Who do they think they are to start issuing bans?
I hereby proclaim that only our gedolim who follow the mesorah of charedism may issue bans! All other banners are barred and banned.

And it’s just a matter of time before the TSA issue a religious exemption ONLY to muslims.

This is the greatest ruling ever – because of this no religious Muslim will ever be able to fly which means that there will never be a terrorist atack on a plane again.

So now that Muslims won’t be flying anymore – we don’t need body scanners! And around we go!

Too bad the use of these scanners is optional. Any one refusing should be denied access to the departure zones of airports

Wouldn’t the problem of modesty be solved simply by having a girl’s line and a boy’s line each monitored by the respective gender? Am I missing something? And isn’t it kind of silly to say the scanner is voluntary? Who would volunteer with a bomb under their clothing??????

in Israel they don’t use it for security scanning.
Maybe it’s about time the TSA learnt from Israel a little bit about security.

Not a surprise that they are trying to get out of being scanned. I guess that would be really embarrassing if you have a bomb stuffed down your pants.

Excellent…the Muslims are racially profiling themselves. Muslims will be patted down, non-Muslims can just waltz through the screener.

I can’t believe people on this blog are naïve enough to think that the impact of this will be less muslims on planes. Helllloooo! Do you not realize the world we live in – all that will happen is that muslims will be exempt due to religious concerns and the whole purpose of having the scanners in the first place will be circumvented.

Umm. #5 - an x-ray shows bones. This shows everything else. Do you understand or do you need it spelled out? Stop calling people names and do some research instead.

True, these scanners go against Muslim teaching– thou shalt not let thyself get caught when trying to bomb planes.

I was not wild about the idea of total body scanners. Our security at the airports is pathetic to begin with. HOWEVER, if the moslems promise not to fly on US airplanes if they must be screened by that mechanism, then i insist that it be installed and compulsory at all US airports.
