The best-sounding buskers in the city stunned straphangers on the S line yesterday, when five members of Amsterdam’s Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra (pictured) put on an impromptu performance as an prelude to their Carnegie performance.
“I’ve played on a flatbed truck before, but never in a subway,” said horn player Jaap van der Vliet.
The subway’s first lurch briefly startled the musicians, but they smoothly resumed composer Samuel Scheidt’s “Three Canzonas.”
The orchestra — which has 120 musicians at full strength — was recognized as the best in the world in 2008.
Great line. kudos.
Just wait till you’ll find out they received tickets for using an extra seat for their equipment…
Awesome! I want to ride the train with them!
Oy, Zindel, Zindel. Why do you have to rain on someone else’s parade?
These guys brought a little unexpected happiness and ‘nachas’ into the other passengers’ drab and dull lives – and free of all payment, too.
And YOU have to go and spoil it?
It must be horrible to hear so many musicians on a single track.
Letz: Don’t worry – I got it. Good Line.
Wish I had been there – concert music for free! Bliss.
