Stephanie Madoff filed court papers in Manhattan on Wednesday asking to change her last name to Morgan. She made the same request for her two children.

She’s married to the jailed financier’s son, Mark. She says her family has gotten threats, and she wants to drop the Madoff name to avoid “additional humiliation” and harassment. Her lawyer declined to comment.

Mark Madoff says in court papers he doesn’t object.

Bernard Madoff is serving a 150-year prison sentence after admitting he cheated investors out of billions of dollars through an investment Ponzi scheme. His lawyer didn’t immediately return a call Wednesday.

Maybe she should chsnge her 1st name from Stephanie to Git to signify that zi iz a gitta un nisht ken shlechta azoi vi der shver. That way her complete name would be Git Morgan.

What, she couldn’t at least come up with a more Jewish name? How about Morgenstern? Or Fliegelfresser?

When there was money it was okay to have the name Madoff – but now its too much. How come she didn’t change her name to
    Madoffowitz?

May I suggest that she first wait to see that her husband is off the hook before she decides to change her name, because if he is in on this(which he probably is) its not going to help her much changing her name.

She was probably loving the name a few years back. Got her into all the great restaurants, ahead in all of the long lines, and whatever else she needed. Had her head in the clouds and forget about all the little people. Now look where she is..

A rose by any other name is still a rose. She and her children are who they are no matter what their names are.

thank you to all the above commentators for giving me a good laugh. I really needed it today. Personally I think the name “Himmelfarb“ would have been a lovely choice, but nobody asked me. It`s way past my bedtime, so…………..you`re all invited over for the Purim seudah for Serious Jokers. A freilechen Purim, and a really Git Morgan!!!
