Brooklyn, NY – A cab ride through Park Slope turned sour and then downright violent after a 29-year-old man threw up in the back of the cab rolling down Fourth Avenue.

Police said that after vomiting in the middle of the 11:30 p.m. ride on February 23, Shelton Ross told the cabbie that he was going to clean everything up.

The cab driver pulled over near 14th Street as Ross went about his task, which took a few minutes.

When he was done, he was outraged to learn that the cabbie didn’t shut the meter off during his heaving hiatus and that he was going to pay for puking.

The two began to argue, officials said. When the cabbie refused to concede to Ross’ demands, he allegedly punched the cab driver in the face, leaving him with a cut lip that required stitches at a local hospital.

Responding officers took Ross into custody without incident, charging him with assault in the second degree, menacing and harassment.

Its quite clear on the rate chart that the meter keeps running for wait-time ( or slow traffic).

He could have sued him for the clean up, at least in halacha, & if so the fact he cleaned up himself, why should the cabbie not get waiting time.
They don’t earn that much, & they are paid by time & distance, I think the cabie was right.
You may want him to have mercy on a sick guy, but how about his own staving family.

I actually agree with the cab driver. He should be paid for his time.

I once spoke to a ex black car driver. he told me amazing stories that put this in context.
He explained that mid management at financial firms have no limits by bosses or pride that would make them behave. This caliber passenger often would take the limo to clubs and get filthy drunk. The resultant mess was always paid for by the driver though he usually got reimbursed by the financial firm if he agreed to keep the story quiet. Taxis have no agreement or ID on passengers so they ask for the taxi to be cleaned and payment for the time lost, sound sright to me.
Upper management usually did not do this mischief and lower management behaved as they were still looking upwards.

Well, this character got lucky that the driver was even willing to let him clean up the mess and presumably take him to his destination. I just had an experience this week in Yerushalayim where my little girl got sick in the back of a taxi and the driver started cursing at me in English, stopped in the middle of the street, and finally pulled over, refusing to take us any farther. Totally crazy!!! I was in disbelief that he wouldn’t take me the final 2 minutes to my house after 20 minutes in the taxi to that point. My daughter had finished throwing up and there really was minimal mess in his taxi which I did my best to clean up, but of course it was a brand new car and he stopped being a rational human once he got behind its wheel I guess.

I think he could have been nice and shut the meter but I understand him. He now had to spend money to wash the car after the puker cleaned it. He lost a day’s worth of work

The brecher was probably shikker too. As for what happened in EY well, it is one more reason why I do not live in the tzioini paradise and why when I visit EY I deal only with haredi businesses whenever possible. (NB some Ym taxi drivers are Arabs and the one time I rode with a yishmo driver it was very unpleasant but I have had far more unpleasant experiences with Jewish drivers there).

At 1130 pm I assume he threw up because he was drunk let him get a lesson in life. Happr Purim guy if you get drunk don’t get into a car because you can get punched or worse 0)
