Last year the House ethics committee expanded its investigation of Rangel to include his revisions to financial statements that revealed assets and income not previously reported.
Earlier the Harlem Democrat had withstood a GOP sponsored resolution that called for Rangel to to surrender his chairmanship of the powerful House Ways and Means Committee.
The ethics committee was also looking into Rangel’s use of multiple rent-stabilized apartments, his fundraising on behalf of the Charles B. Rangel Center for Public Service at City College in New York, and his failure to pay taxes on a Dominican Republic vacation home.
Rangel is also being investigated in a separate ethics committee probe of Caribbean trips in 2007-08 by five members of the Congressional Black Caucus.
The committee has authorized nearly 150 subpoenas in the investigation of Rangel, has interviewed some 34 witnesses and reviewed more than 12,000 pages of documents.
Watch it, I promise, nothing will happen. If he would be a regular guy or a Rabbi he would sit in Jail, but he’s a politician and he writes the very same laws that he broke. Spinka Rebbe will do time for violating those laws, but charlie gets to write more tax laws. There is absolutely no “dina dmalchusa dina” when those who write these laws dont abide by them.
hit that wacko hard. he thinks he’s untuchable
good , its time for Charlie Rangel to leave washington full time and sit on the beach like the picture shows and think about his budy charlie the tuna
Wow so now Obama can promote him to treasury secretary
What makes his violations so egregious is that he WRITES tax law! Whereas Tim Geithner could claim not to “understand” (as if a treasury sect. should understand, but I digress), the one who writes the law cannot use ignorance as an excuse. How many of us regular folk can claim not to have known something and the have the IRS being totally cool with that???
The People want term limits!!!
Everyone knows tax laws only apply for people who can’t afford lawyers. He not only can afford one, he is one, and a legislator to boot.
If he was a republican,it would be the main news for the next few days,A democrat? the media is silent.
Time to clean house. Vote all the incumbents out and start over.
