Smithtown Messenger publisher Phillip Sciarello said in an editorial that it was not the Long Island paper’s intent to offend anyone.
He again maintained that the photo was meant as political satire. But he said the paper was “mindful that the satire seemed to some in poor taste.”
The photo spread featured “before and after” shots of the last six presidents and their wives, starting with Jimmy and Rosalynn Carter and ending with the Obamas.
It was criticized by some local officials as crossing the line. The NAACP called it racist.
They should have apologized to the characters from the Sanford and Son sitcom.
The NAACP called it racist. if they can’t take the heat they should get out of the kitchen.they way i see it if the naacp dose not like it they play the “racist” card
what about in the previous administration. every one was mocking Bush or i forgot he was white.
This administration is ridiculous. They cannot tolerate any criticism. The media should stop bending over backwards to please the White House.
truth is – mr obama is the president of the united states, i certainly did not vote for him, but to publicly disrespect the president is 100% inappropriate.
there are a ton of rabbonim with whom i totally disagree with on many many issues also but i was taught that i dont have to like everyone or agree with everyone but must be respectful…thanks mom!
They should have apologized to Redd Foxx etc. This utterly rediculous! Typical left. They can only give it but can never take it.
Before any of you defend the original article, take some time to actually look at it. The pictures of the previous presidents showed them before and after their terms; the one of the Obamas showed these two ridiculous characters, neither of whom look remotely like the president and his wife.
I apologize for them apologizing!!!!!!! Maybe it should have been The Munster’s..
