Bloomberg was already scheduled to travel to Berlin Tuesday to accept the 2010 Henry A. Kissinger Prize. The city said Friday the mayor added a stop in London that morning.

Bloomberg plans to tour a closed-circuit television facility in London to examine its “ring of steel” surveillance program.

The network of cameras was the inspiration for a 3,000-camera system being installed in lower Manhattan.

A similar system is being planned for midtown.

Some have pointed to the Times Square bomb plot last week as another example of why the city needs such surveillance systems.

We didn’t forget about the trip he took the first time when he installed the cameras in downtown. The cameras in london haven’t changed.

To #1 If you have nothing to hide and you are not a terrorist then cameras are great. We need them in this day and age.

I cannot understand how the Mayor can allow a $100 Million, 13 story Mosque to built 2 blocks from the World Trade Center. It will house 2,000 worshipers. The money is coming from the Ford and Rockefeller Foundations. Construction will start after the summer (NY Times). This will allow the terrorists to have easy access to blow up Wall Street, all of the downtown bridges, subways, and tunnels. This is a major security threat. How can we allow this to happen Mr. Mayor? Stop accepting awards and protect the people of this city! This is not only an outrage to the people of this city but a slap in the face to all those people who lost relatives during 9/11. Where is your heart and where is your brains? Who bought you off to allow such an threat to placed in such a critical area. I ask all good citizens to fight this threat to our very lives!

hi. i live in london and we have here millions of cameras, true if you are a good law obiding citizen nothing to hide than why worry, the problem is that these cameras are not only for security but also for catching you ilegally parked which is an instant ticket on the post, it shows you a very clear photo of the car, the offence and in most places the driver aswell, but when it comes to crime forget about it, the police will always gwt away with it, they will say that the cameras are so unclear etc.,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, so, need we say more?
