A cabdriver from Russia was laid to rest yesterday as police searched for the hit-and-run driver who mowed him down on Queens Boulevard as he walked home from a synagogue following Yom Kippur services.

Around 200 friends and relatives gathered at Congregation Beth Gabriel in Rego Park to bid farewell to Yakub Aminov, 59, who was struck by a silver Nissan SUV Monday night.

Aminov’s three sons remembered him as a fun-loving dad who emigrated from Russia more than 20 years ago. In Russia, Aminov had been a musician, playing the saxophone at weddings. When he came to the United States, he took to driving a cab. Earlier this year, his children gave him a new saxophone and he started playing again.

Meanwhile, police inspected a torched silver Nissan with Virginia plates found yesterday on a Brooklyn street as possibly connected to Aminov’s death.

    Dear “heimishe hottie”

If you’ll look back on my original post, you’ll see that I said, that 95% of people that drive SUV’s are having a problem, so I guess you’re of the remaining 5%!

Although, I don’t understand why a reliable Mini-Van wouldn’t do the job for you, but if you say that you don’t have attitudes, I’ll have to believe you! you sound quite honest…

I too was rear-ended not too long ago and my 02 honda coupe no longer has a trunk. I no longer feel safe in small cars thus, G-d willing, my next car will be the Honda CR-V.

I was an hour too late at the scene of the hit and run. I think this is certainly a tragedy and also a clear cut message to all Jewish people to see stop sinning and start getting closer to G-d. May Mr. Aminov rest in peace.

I’m so sorry for the poor yid that lost his neshoma. Now listen here, nisht kein groise chuchem. I drive a Honda Pilot and it’s not because of my attitude. I need it because I live in the suburbs and need to trudge up the steep inclines. I need it because I was all-shook-up when I was rear-ended when driving a mid-size sedan. I need it because I need reliable transportation to get me to/from work. I need it for when driving slick roads. I need it for my safety and my kids’ safety. I just need it for peace of mind. I don’t have an attitude. I drive the speed limit, obey all traffic laws, always signal before turning and never double-park. You cannot compare me with the behaimas in Boro Park. It is not always the car that kills; it’s the driver.

    victims name:Yakub Aminov

NEW YORK — A man walking home from religious services at a temple on the holiest day of the Jewish calendar was run over by a hit-and-run driver on a roadway dubbed the Boulevard of Death has died, police said.

Yakub Aminov, 59, man was hit by a sport utility vehicle traveling west on the major thoroughfare Queens Boulevard at around 8 p.m. Monday, the Yom Kippur holiday.

Queens District Attorney Richard Brown, who also had been at a temple Monday, said earlier that Aminov was hospitalized in very serious condition.

“For someone who apparently was on his way home from temple after observing the holiday and to have this happen to him is just a terrible tragedy,” said Brown, who didn’t disclose the man’s name.

The driver of the silver Nissan SUV sped off after the accident, which occurred in the Rego Park section, and was being sought, police said.

The boulevard, which runs across half the borough through some of its busiest neighborhoods, often is called the Boulevard of Death because it has been the scene of many accidents involving pedestrians, with an average of 10 killed each year during the 1990s.

Safety measures including fences to prevent jaywalking and longer pedestrian crossing times at traffic lights have been implemented in recent years to help reduce the number of deaths on the boulevard, some parts of which are more than 12 lanes wide

I think Abigaiil at 2:24am said it all. I pray this poor man recovers and the hit and run driver is found. What goes through someone’s mind that does such a thing? I can’t think of any possible excuse for not stopping. I also agree with Abigaiil that the media had one purpose to stating it was an SUV – to help find the criminal who did this.

Possible break in Queens Blvd. hit and run

Police believe they found the Nissan that struck a pedestrian returning from Yom Kippur services.

New developments in a hit and run that critically injured a pedestrian in Queens.
It happened on one of the city’s most dangerous roadways.

Police may have found the car involved in the fatal incident in Bed-Stuy, Brooklyn.
It was found set on fire and it had Maryland license plates.
Police are investigating the Nissan believed to be a key piece of evidence in the hit and run.

The victim is clinging to life, in critical condition at Jamaica Hospital.
The father of two was leaving a local synagogue when he crossed Queens Boulevard and was hit by a car.

Fifty nine year-old Yakub Aminov was run down by a silver or gray SUV last night after eight o’clock on Queens Boulevard.
Police believe the man was just leaving Yom Kippur services when his night of prayer and self confession ended in a terrible accident.

Richard Brown, Queens District Attorney: “It appears that the 59-year-old gentleman was walking from the southside of the boulevard to the northside and he was struck by a silver or gray SUV.”

The driver left the shattered man lying in the road and sped away from the scene.

Richard Brown: “It’s something that I can’t quite understand. How someone could hit an individual crossing a boulevard and then just take off and not stop to find out what his condition is, or call 9-1-1 or get an ambulance for him.”

Police continue to look for the driver but believe they may have found the car involved in the hit-n-run. Police will continue to investigate the Nissan which apparently suffered front end damage.

What happened to this poor man is terrible. I live on Queens Blvd and I think it is very dangerous to cross the street even when you have the right of way. I came to the scene 1 hour later and it just broke my heart to know that he was walking home and never made it. What is even more upsetting to me is that the driver did not stop in his SUV to help the helpless man. I want to know what kind of a heart he has to do such a thing. I pray for his family and I hope they find the driver and charge him with a crime of leaving the scene.
Mark Levin you sound like a Good Jewish man do you think the media gives a S..t about SUV, minivans ets….? A man was hit and it is believed to be an SUV all the media wants to do is get the word out there letting people know what to look for when they see. Nobody give a crap about cars/names. What’s important is finding out who did it. And yes they would have mentioned if it was a different car like VW. You want to attack the media attack them on politics. Don’t you have anything better to do then to sit behind your computer and talk about cars? LOOK AT THE BIGGER PICTURE. This poor man might have died children lost a father wife lost a husband sister lost a brother the community lost a good person. What ever car it was it is good that it was mentioned. One advice start looking.

Mark, from your comment, it’s quite obvious, that you’re indeed driving one of these mighty “SUV’s”, but I totally understand the media’s bias, against these mighty “Killers”,

To me, it’s clear cut, 95% people who drive SUV’s, are people with attitudes! Yes you heard right, people with attitudes.

Why? Can anyone explain why should someone Buy/lease an SUV, if not for his attitude problems? You’re paying virtually double on gas, it has half the seating/storage space of an equivalent Mini-Van, its costs are significantly higher, than a equivalent Mini-Van or station waggon???

So the only reason we could come with, is because, he needs a tool to bullyrag the humanity!!

    Think about it!

So as long the media is only prejudice to an object, it’s ok with me, as long it’s not the Republicans who are at fault, it’s fine with me…..

WOW! This is amaizing! The Silver SUV hit someone?! Was the Silver SUV “looking” for the person so it could hit them??

CH”V, I am not making choyzik of the person getting hit however I am pointing out that the way the media reports accidents when dealing with SUVs, MiniVans, etc., show their bias toward these vehicles. Would they have said the same thing if it was a VW Bug that hit the person?? No way!

I hope the person has a refiah sh’laima.
