The White Stork Synagogue was built in 1829. During the Second World War, the Germans turned it into a Nazi warehouse (which is why it was not destroyed completely). But in 1968, under Communist rule, the structure was neglected and almost totally ruined.

A decade ago, the White Stork Synagogue was returned to the Jewish community, which began refurbishing the site in recent years.

According to Rabbi Yitzhak Rapoport, Shavei Israel’s emissary to Wroclaw and one of the leading proponents behind the synagogue reconstruction, the opening ceremony was attended by over 800 people, including: the president of the Wroclaw Jewish Community and Vice President of the Union of Polish Jewish Communities, the Israeli Ambassador to Poland, the Mayor of Wroclaw, the Chief Rabbi of Poland, the Polish Catholic Cardinal of Wroclaw, the Bishop of the Orthodox Church, the President of the Union of Jewish Communities in Poland and the President of Warsaw’s Jewish Community.

Its odd that it fails to mention that the city was part of Pre-war Germany as Breslau. It was never a shul in Poland until today. An entire world of eastern German minhagim that disappeared.

What a waste of money and a waste of time. What are they going to do with this bldg all year round when there will not be 800 people to fill it up? And the next thing you know that some Polish anti semite will paint a swastika and everybody will scream bloody Mary. Aren’t they ever going to learn a lesson? It bugs the hell out of me that people are so ignorant

To the “pushite yid”: dude, most of the world isn’t heimish outside of your Buri Park, Flatbush or Willy. Get real and ingrain in your self some ahavas chinam for the Jews that look different from you.
