Northbound motorists with E-ZPass are now able to pass the Woodbury toll plaza — Exit 16 at Harriman — at 65 miles per hour. Southbound service is expected to be available beginning at 4 a.m. Saturday.

Officials say the new capability will relieve congestion at the heavily traveled toll barrier located in Orange County, 45 miles north of New York City. Five lanes at the Woodbury plaza were demolished to allow creation of 4 highway-speed E-ZPass lanes, two northbound and two southbound.

Traffic at Woodbury averages about 42,000 vehicles daily, peaking at about 62,000 vehicles on holiday weekends.

Still doesn’t make a difference for the eruv shabbos rush to the mountains….its still generally assur to drive past licht benchen on Friday, even if you don’t have to hand money to the toll collector.

The reason why it took so long for NY State to install these speed lanes is simple.
In NY as oppossed to, say Texas, is that along the way there are many more levels of officials that need to be bribed!

    This process takes years.

This is the reason that the Metro-Card Subway sysytem was instituted only in 2002 when Wash DC had it in 1992.

    1.
This is not the Toll plaza to the NY 17. it’s for continuing on the Thruway to exit 17, 18 and beyond.
    2.
Why are we defending NYS?? We are happy where we live. We have some things that Taxas doesn’t have and vise versa….
    3.
NY and NJ have the High-Speed EZ-Pass at so many locations. It’s just that the Thruway had their reasons and concerns for not implementing it till now. Now that they worked out the details they are able to implement it.

When will the state do something to resolve the problem of hundreds of drivers who want to pay cash who block the “EZPass” lanes, preventing those with EZPass from advancing?
