Israeli riot police remove an ultra-Orthodox Jew from a fence as they make arrests on 16 May 2010 at Barzilai Medical Center in the southern town of Ashkelon, Israel. EPA/Jerusalem - Leading figures of the extreme “eda haredit” haredi community are planning to lay a curse on Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu and the director-general of his office, Eyal Gabbai on Sunday night, Channel 10 news reported .

The “eda haredit” leaders have called a protest rally in Jerusalem over the start of evacuation of graves from the site for the Ashkelon hospital’s reinforced emergency department.

According to the report, at the rally they will ask the assembled crowd, in an unusual move,  to join them in cursing the Prime Minister and the man who negotiated with the “atra kadisha” haredi organization on behalf of the government on the issue of locating Barzilai hospital’s emergency department.

Cut it out. The Eyda is not "extreme." They are only active for their own interests, just like Mizrachi settlers or Agudist politicians. Why does the world hang onto to old stereotypes from 50 years ago?!

I agree with poster #1, that the Eidah is not "extreme."

Why should anyone think that setting fires, destroying property, screaming at cameras and reporters until spittle droops down their mouths, and organizing events where they place curses on those they disagree with is anything other than normal, rational behavior?

This is Pathetic! What a horrible Chillul Hashem! The worst part about it, is that these bones belong to heathens. Indiviudals that probably have Jewish blood on their hands. So the Eidah is fighting against Jews and cursing Yidden, for bones of non-jews who probably killed and raped Jews while they were alive. Explain this to me please!

Good to know that these eda charedi "care" and fight for 2000 year old Byzantine Pagans that worshiped tumah that our Gemorahs forbade. I highly doubt they care about these goyish ancient bones. During these global economic tensions where governments slash programs, the Charedi will not waste an opportunity to create riots and tensions to extort money out of the government to support their large communities that can't find jobs because their leaders forbids education and skills.
If the ploy will work, Natanyahu will dump several million shekels to them until the next riot season.

I cant understand the posters above. You see the pictures of those skeletons and the workers smiling with severed hand, what's the joke? The fact is that even the Rabbanut has not given permission to do this, leave your daas baal habait to yourself. Are we not a nation of laws, which is the Torah?

Besides if this would be your grandfather would you not curse? There is also a contributing factor in which many nations are watching and in fact have already stated that if Israel can unearth graves, why cant they.

I am not sure if they way they are demonstrating is something I would agree to, but that is a mitigating factor. In every country, including democratic, there are protests that are violent in nature and most of the time it's held by the left.

All of a sudden, when it comes to protect the holy graves, kivrei raboisainu va'avosainu, only the "Eda" is here for them.. strange.

These are not "holy kivrei avos"; they are pagan graves and have been so confirmed by the experts and approved by rav Yosef, shlita. The only yiddeshe graves here may c'v, be those of the chareidi rioters unless they show some restraint and back down before the police take action.

I'm not sure if you're aware of this, but the vast majority of people living in the land of Israel over a 1500 year long time span were not Jews! By the middle of the 4th century, it was completely Byzantine, fell into Arab hands in the Arabic conquests, in 638 and stayed that way until 1099, when it was invaded by christian forces, followed by the establishment of the crusader states and the Kingdom of Jerusalem, fell back into Muslim hands in 1187 and stayed in Muslim hands until 1918! Jews were only allowed in very recently, so therefor, if you find a grave in Israel, it probably isn't a Jew!
These graves were examined by the top scientists and archeologists, who know what they're talking about. If you don't want to believe in science then you're not allowed to go to the hospital on shabbos, it would become chillul shabbos. The arguments made in favor of these protestors are stupid and make normal frum people look stupid by association.

1. These are Byzantine graves. These people were pagans who pillaged their way across E"Y, they were not holy Jews nor were they people who died 50 or even 100 years ago, who now have angry offspring running around. The Byzantine empire does not exist and has not for several centuries, so no, Ukranians are not going to start digging up Jewish graves in retaliation.

2. The Eida lost all credibility on graves after 2005. They weren't interested in the dati leumi people buried in Gush Katif, but hey lets burn down Jerusalem for some pagan bones.

3. These protestors are shababnikim who need to be sent to the army since they enjoy fighting or forced to work. All this does is make Gabi Gazit and his chiloni friends happy because it 'proves' their arguments against us.

A bunch of Dati Leumi rabbis also paskened that it is mutar. Furthermore, the Sefardi and Dati Leumi political parties are willing to serve in the government and take responsibility for running the country. It is clear that the Ashkenazi Charedi rabbis are in the minority here, and they have no right to force their minority viewpoint on everyone else, particularly when they take no responsibility for government.

Jews were living in Israel since the churban. Whoever the rulers were is a seperate story.
While periodically throughout the years there were quotas of Jews being allowed to settle in Eretz Yisroel, the most recent being under the British rule, Jews were living in Israel for centuries with yishuvim mainly in Yerushalayim and Tzefas.

Just for the record most of the bones and kevarim that the arceologists have and are still digging up every day all over eretz yisroel are 100% jewish usually from zeman beis sheini and plenty of them have jewish inscriptions on the stone coffins
Some examples are Moirid har habayis and the whole area next to where R Yehudah hanassi is buried (can't remember the name)
Apart from that there has never been a time that yidden have not lived in eretz yisroel even if only in small nos

What, you think that they were ruling Jews in the crusader kingdoms?! Pope Urban II ordered the massacre of all of the Jews in Israel in 1099. There was always a small minority of Jews in Israel, but not particularly significant. Remember, even in 79 ce, Pliny the elder discusses all of the different lands of the Mediterranean and the people who inhabit it, when he discusses Judea he talks about how it is barren and only mentions the Essenes.
We were all taught in school about how there were always Jews in Israel, and we imagined it to be full of Jews, but this is not historically accurate at all. It was only sparsely populated by Jews for a very long time.
These graves are absolutely not those of Jews, and most graves that you find from the period after the churban until the later Ottoman empire are not Jewish graves.

Still no answer, I see. YOU are quite right...it's impossible to argue with an idiot (unless you're Glenn Beck, which I am not.)

Have a good night. Maybe you'll feel better tomorrow.

Mesiras nefesh is not involved when a bunch of unemployed hooligan bums decide to set dumpsters on fire.

To all those that keep on saying that we're talking about goyish graves, let's quote VIN
"The Israel Antiquities Authority on Sunday said preliminary findings from the excavation at the site of the planned emergency room in Ashkleon reveal that the ancient remains buried there are not Jewish, but from the Byzantine era."
We all know what 'preliminary findings' means. Nothing more has to be said (especially when we seen how many people buy these excuses). It's interesting how EVERY single time they dug up graves they were from non-jews (or animals!) even when there is jewish inscriptions on the caskets etc.

Let's be honest youv'e condemmed them all.In ashkelon and yaffo, there was no violent burning, they laid down in front of the graves.

Take it up with Maran Ovadia Yosef since you seem to know more than he does.

Silly. Of course if it was my father's grave I would take a different attitude. But it isn't.
I say kaddish for my father but not for anybody else's.
I took a whole week off work to sit shiva for my father. I don't do that for anybody else's father.
The meisim there are not their fathers. Let the sons - who might even be goyim - demonstrate then we would understand and maybe even symapathise and support.

Would the Israeli state be under British rule, this would never happen! and almost sure that even if the Palestinians would've rule, this ugly desecration of holy graves wouldn't happen either.
So basically this is why a so called "Jewish state" is needed for, to desecrate ancient Jewish graves.
Shame on Israel!

Ay? Israel - or Palestine as it was called then - better under British rule.
Have you not heard of al Husseini or Ernie Bevin or - worst of all because he was jewish - Herbert Samuel. Time for you to study some history.
The British sent out warships to torpedo jewish holocaust survivors on unarmed refugee ships to prevent then entering "Palestine" and deported them to concentration camps in Cyprus.
