Officials of Masjid Manhattan, with 1,500 members, clearly want to be near the site of the worst terror attack on US soil.

“Build the ‘House of Allah’ next to the World Trade Center! Help us raise the flag of La Illaha Illa Allah in downtown Manhattan,” reads a banner on its Web site.

The mosque, on nearby Warren Street since 1970, says it’s raised $8.5 million of the needed $11 million.

Meanwhile, Cordoba House it seeks to build a $100 million mosque on Park Place, two blocks closer to Ground Zero.

It’s insane!! Can we try to build a shul next door to Mecca?
I just signed an online petition against the mosque, which is supposed to be delivered to the mayor and community board which voted and approved the mosque
    Here’s the petition

The title is an inflammatory and probably a lie. Do you have any evidence that the people trying to build the mosque have done anything improper?

If this goes thru ח’ו then we might as well change our name to United “Arab” States.
How about allowing building in Ramat Shlomo for Jews?

This is old news reported on everywhere a couple of weeks ago. A group presented the plan to turn the original Syms building on Park Place into a mosque to Community Board 1 a few weeks ago. Sadly, their entitled to build since under a Federal law there is almost no way to prevent a house of worship that meets building code.

Not only is this a insult to those who lost relatives on 9/11 but this is a major sucurity risk for our city. Over 2,000 worshipers is like a small army located in one of the most sensitive areas of NYC. From that building they have easy access to blow-up all of the downtown bridges, tunnels, subways, including the new WTC. This is nuts! Every good person should fight this cancer in our midst. I want to sign the pettion. Our city and counrty has been sold! This isn’t America anymore! Mayor Bloomberg I know that you are liberal but this is going too far. The safety of the citizens of NYC are at risk there is no room for political correctness when our lives are at stake!

Muslims worship the One and True G-d and as Jews we are on this earth to be a Light unto the Nations, to inspire non Jews to worship the One and True G-d and to turn away from idolatry.I recently learned that one of the few US Dayyanim whose Gittin and Conversions are still recognized by the Israeli Rabbinute introduced a young woman who was seeking to convert to Judaism to an Imam friend of his.Today this woman is a devout Muslim who dedicates her life to serving G-d. I am fortunate to have only gotten to know her well and she recently told me that it was an Orthodox Rabbi in LA who led her to become a Muslim.
As Jews we have only one standard of right and wrong and that is our Torah.
We should rejoice that so many non Jews are turning to serve the One and True G-d that there is a such a demand for mosques.
The phrase in the article (raising the flag) is actually:
La – (Lo) – no, none
ilaha – G-d (save for) (same Name as in Hebrew)
    ilallah – G-d,
    “There is no G-d but G-d. “
That is the Shahada (from shahid- to witness, Hebrew root “aid”)
It is the same as the Shema and the First and Second Commandments

There cannot possibly be any Torah basis for objecting to this

You seem so in love with Islam. What planet do you live on? Islam has caused so much trouble around the world. They have blown up innocent people wherever they have lived around the world for many decades. You ask what could be against the Torah to place a mosque by the WTC site. There is a Torah commandment to protect oneself from harm and catastrophe. There is another Torah commandment not to cause pain to the living or insult the dead. This is just to name a few of the many Torah prohibititions to place a mosque at this site. It is true as you said that the Muslims worship One G-d but many choose to worship One G-d through violemce without leaving or allowing room on this planet for any other form of worship. Peace is a two-way street. If one side decides to make peace and the other doesn’t then the one who decided to make peace might end up dead. I fear for the safety of this city. This mosque might cause many Times Square incidents. I don’t want to give them the chance to even try. #26 your anaylsis is very poor. Even if what you claim is true I say, “When in doubt leave it out!”

While I’m not opposed to mosques in America, building one near the sacred ground of 9/11 goes beyond the pale. If American Muslims want to make a statement about their denouncement of Islamic-Terror, let them build a monument to honor the victims and castigate the “exteme” elements that have twisted the words of their religion.
