Debkafile’s counter-terror sources report that all the entrances to Fifth Avenue between 55th and 83rd Streets were blocked by patrol cars and huge trucks packed with cement as counter-measures against car bombs, as around ten thousand marchers celebrated Israel’s 62nd anniversary under a sea of waving blue and white flags. Regular participants in the annual parade said they have never seen such extreme anti-terror measures before.

A ring of police officers, undercover agents and Israeli security guards enclosed the group of marching Israeli consular staff. More police officers mingled with the cheering crowds lining the streets of the route, police marksmen perched on the rooftops and helicopters hovered overhead.

Our counter-terror sources report that US federal agencies and the New York police are not satisfied that the accomplices of Faisal Shahzad, who failed to detonate a bomb on Time Square on May 1, have been rounded up and fear that his network is still at large. The ongoing inquiry and information coming in from Pakistan lay bare an extensive terrorist ring activated by the Taliban which may be plotting more attacks in New York or other parts of the United States by explosive cars or some other means of attack.

I was at the parade, as I usually go every year. There was a strong police presence, but there always is. Plus, I have seen cement filled trucks there before.

this report is sensationalist. Other years had the same amount of police presence. They always blocked off streets, had security walking everywhere and lots of police. I didn’t notice anything different.

As usual, only the MO’s and conservatives showed up to support Israel. The only black hats were NK

someone correct me if im wrong- im sure many will attempt. Does the secular Israel promote Torah values, or do they degrade it. I wonder how many of those marching, know that in the Israeli public school system they are prohibited from teaching the students about our acceptance of the Torah from Mt. Sinai. Kind of tantamount to making a party for the establishment of reform Judaism.
I ask you all what is Israel other then a Hebrew speaking nationalistic society. How does it represent Jews, how can a “Jewish State” refrain from teaching their young about the basic tenets of Judaism.

Marching in this parade was a bigger mitzvah than anything else you could have done today. It was sad to see the relatively small turnout from the “black hat” community given the vital importance of a secure EY to all yidden. This was truly a day where sitting in some beis medrash and learning was a chilul hashem when you should have come out to show support for EY.

There are a number of tour books, which are published regarding NYC. For example, Frommer’s, Fodor’s and other books, publish data about tourist attractions in Manhattan. All of them list the various parades which take place annually in Manhattan, such as the Thanksgiving Day parade, Columbus Day Parade, St. Patrick’s Day Parade, Puerto Rican Day parade, etc. However, not one of them has ever referenced the annual Salute to Israel Day parade, which has been in existence, since 1964. When I wrote to all of the publications regarding that obvious omission, not one of them ever gave me a satisfactory explanation, as to why their respective publications do not reference that parade. One thanked me, but never published information about the parade in its future editions. Another stated that they would no longer publish any information about the parades. Can anybody believe that in one of the largest Jewish cities in the world, that this information would not be published in tour books? When I asked one of the editors, if he was afraid of offending certain groups, he became very defensive.

now that is laughable. ”truly frum”
putting on a black hat does not make anyone ”truly frum”.
i saw a rebetzen there who was my kids 2nd grade teacher in MTJ, and belive me. she is ”TRULY FRUM” in CAPS!

I was there, marched with my daughter with JNF. Crowd was sparser than previous 3 years, almost no Frum. Even the Israel-hating NK’s had only 6-9 bums there; their palestinian pals were fewer than ever and even had a nice sign wishing a nuclear attack on HaEretz. Overall its good to see some Yidden show up and proudly support Israel. The rest of you who didn’t show up can kvetch about dogma, etc., but we marchers & crowd stood tall with Israel today.

Seriously- what is the purpose of a parade. I am not trying to be funny , I just don’t understand the concept. Who marches and who watches ? Is it different than a rally ? I serioiusly don’t get it. Can someone please explain. Thanks.

Beautiful parade to show love and gratitude to the one above for the present called, “ERETZ YISROEL”. In the political atmosphere of today it is essential that are leadership is aware that Jews and others are in solidarity with Israel and its values of security and peace.

Are you able to daven at the Kotel? if yes then go to the parade, what does it hurt to say thanks in a public way – that is true Hakaras HaTov. Yes by davening and learning we thank G-d but what about the people. This is the way to say thank you . All Yeshiva’s should go.

If you are against the parade then don’t daven at the kotel either!!!

I would like to say something to all the israel bashers. If you hate it so much, please don’t send your sons to yeshiva there, don’t send your daughters to seminary there. Don’t go there on vacation of for Pesach or Shvuous or Succos. How dare you insult the sons and daughters who give their lives every day to protect our country, yes OUR country! Have you seen pictures of them standing in the desert and on tanks with tallis and tefillin? I am sure they had more kavana than any of you loudmouths.
Oh I forgot, they wear knitted kipot, therefore they are not as good a jew as you are.
I would take 1 of them for every 1000 of you ignoramuses.
