The home of the Giants and Jets beat out Miami and Tampa, Fla., in the bidding.

The average temperature for February 2 is 39 degrees. But game time lows could be much lower. But if the New York area does win the Super Bowl bid, it would be a super coup for local businesses.

“It’s going to be a great experience,” New York Giants quarterback Eli Manning said.

“Playing a game like a Super Bowl in New York, in this stadium, I mean, look at this place, it’s unbelievable,” New York Jets quarterback Mark Sanchez said.

Win the bid, and the region wins an estimated half-billion dollars in business. It would be the first superbowl played in the northeast.

A league rule that requires a minimum temperature of 50 degrees at game time has been waived for the meadowlands bid. Miami and Tampa have hosted the superbowl a total of 14 times.

The Giants and Jets are combining efforts to bring the game to their new $1.6 billion stadium.

although I think its wrong to change the rules for special people (see Bloomberg term limits), I still think its an unfair rule to only award it to warm weather cities, since many of the most popular franchises (New york, Green Bay, Pittsburgh, and so on) are located in cold weather cities.
