New York, NY – Their jobs are to protect students and teachers at school, but increasing violence against school safety officers is making it necessary for law enforcement officials to protect them.

Brooklyn District Attorney Charles Hynes was joined by New York City Police Commissioner Ray Kelly and Local 237 Teamsters President Gregory Floyd Tuesday to announce the assault on school safety officers program.
The program will ensure that those who attack school safety officers will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law, said, District Attorney Hynes.
Previously created programs involving assaults on police officers and transit workers from the District Attorney’s office will serve as models for this new program.
