It’s a shame Peter (Tzvi) Malkin is no longer with us. I met him in the Lower East Side a few years ago. I remember him as being a nice, soft spoken person. I shuddered at the thought of shaking the same hand that grabbed Eichmann and kept his mouth shut. At that time he was living in the same building as Reb Dovid Feinstein.

According to him, that EL AL flight (probably arranged especially for the mission but masked as an official Israeli delegation coming to celebrate 150 years of Argentina’s Independence), was the first and last EL AL plane to land on Argentinian soil.

It’s nice that they commemorate that historical event while most of the participants are still alive. What about Raful, “Ha-Masriach”. (That was his nickname. Rest assured there was a reason for it.) I have read that he had a major part in the success of the brilliant and risky operation. Some say, that the subsequent failure to capture mengele (yms’h) was due to the Mossad being occupied with another earth shaking event. The successful return of Yossele Schuchmacher to his parents. But the consensus (among the Historians) for the failure of launching that operation was, that Ben Gurion did not want to enrage some powerful non-Jewish groups by bringing mengele in so soon after capturing eichmann (ymsh”v)!

for having seen him in Vienna , five minutes from where I attended Alijah school he had his office [Morsinplatz]known what he stood for kol hakovod to those who risked their lives. The pilot who flew the El-Al plane was Abarbanel, an El-Al pilot. The name of Eichmann meant deadly terror in Vienna from 1938 on
