Manhattan, NY – Today is the first weekday in which traffic of the lower level of the Manhattan bridg is closed, officials are giving the lower roadway of the nearly 100-year-old bridge a facelift, that means, all lanes will be closed for the next year.

Traffic flowing into China Town and downtown Brooklyn on the four-lane upper-level is a nightmare. The New York City Department of Transportation suggests drivers use alternate routes to cross the East River for the next year.
Pedestrians and bikers will share access along the Manhattan Bridge’s south walkway. The north walkway will be closed.
