During the Rosh Hashanah Holiday period, 12 thousand Breslov Chassidim left Israel on 80 flights to visit the tomb of Rabbi Nachman of Breslov. While passengers were going through passport control, border police noticed that several passengers were using passports that didn’t belong to them. Police investigations revealed that the holders of the passports had a criminal background and were banned from leaving.
Apparently, the suspects had contacted their friends who resembled them physically and asked to use their passports. “There was a mass exit of Breslov Hassids and they all looked alike,” said Yigal Duchan, director of the Population Administration office at Ben Gurion Airport.

The alleged imposters were apprehended and it was reported that they would stand trial for impersonation.

you are entitled to your opinion. du redds vi a litvak. if you were a chassid you would understand what it means to travel to a rebbe for rosh hashana. it gives the chassid spiritual fuel for the entire year.
even in lita they used to travel to the baalie mussar for ellul.
you also do not appreciate the importance of davening by kivrei tzdiikim. rashi says that kalev went to daven at the meoras hamachpela not to fall to the atzas hameraglim.

THis uman stuff is making less and less sense to me as I read these comments.

Better take those thousands and give to tzedakah than on a trip vacation trip to Uman, leaving your family behind for ROsh Hashana.

The havtacha from Borei Olam for giving tzedaka appears to me a lot more impressive than the legendary legend of R’ Nachman of Breslov.

    Intelligent responses always welcome.

There are some people who have criminal backgrounds and return via Breslov. Some are sincere and really have given up their old lives – the movie Ushpizin is not 100% fictional.

On the other hand, a small percentage just dress as Breslovers so as to claim they are rehabilitated when in reality they are not only doing what they used to do, but they are bringing their criminal ways to the Breslov community and attracting marginals to join them in their crimes.

Just because someone goesw to UMAN it does NOT mean he is Breslov. Uman has become a place that everyone comes not just Breslov, so I wouldn’t label Breslov Chasidim with false passport. I don’t think those criminals have anything to do with breslov period!!!!

For Heaven’s sake- how many Breslov criminals were caught with false passports? How many Breslov criminals are there in the first place? I bet it’s much exaggerated. It’s probaby a fraction of the percentage of criminals in Israeli society at large.

And all along I thought that I was the only one who thought that they all look alike.

IF Reb Nachman were alive, what would he say to these criminals???

IF he would tell them to do teshuva, why then are they running to his kever? Let them stay where they are before wasting money going to Uman.
