Monroe, NY – State troopers responding to a tripped house alarm didn’t found a burglar, but they discovered a cache of pot plants.

ADT Security Services notified NY State Police of an alarm going off at 481 Orchard Hill Road, when troopers arrived they found the back door unlocked and they entered, looking for possible intruders, but were overcome by the smell of marijuana. Black plastic covered all the windows in the house and hung over the doorway to a room that led to a hydroponically grown pot crop.
While authorities went to court to get a search warrant, the renter, Leon Rosenthal, 31, came home and was arrested, state police said.
With a search warrant, authorities have confiscated about 127 pot plants, measuring between 4 and 5 feet tall, $7,400 in cash and Rosenthal’s computer.
Rosenthal was charged with first-degree criminal possession of marijuana, a felony. He was released on $15,000 bail from Orange County Jail.
