Queens, NY – Emanuel Plata slept peacefully through his 15 minutes of fame in his father’s arms next to his mother’s bedside in Elmhurst Hospital Tuesday morning all through a press conference about his birth and significance to the United States.

The hospital claims Emanuel is the 300 millionth American baby, and making him as much a symbol of immigration, the changing face of Queens, the city and the nation, as he is just a baby whose existence is measured in ounces and inches like every other newborn.
At 6 pounds, 15-ounces and 18.5-inches, Emanuel was born by scheduled Caesarean section at 7:46 a.m. to Brooklyn residents Gricelda Plata and Armando Jimenez, who are both natives of Mexico.
Emanuel is their third child and third son, but their first child born in the United States, according to Chris Constantine, executive director of Elmhurst Hospital.
