Walter Clemens, 56, found himself under arrest when he tried to retrieve his wallet at the 120th Precinct station.
Clemens told a detective that he was a retired police officer, and had made a copy of his ID card and locked away the original because he had lost it once in the past. But the ID looked nothing like a retired cop’s credentials, it had the words “police officer” hand-written underneath Clemens’ photo.
Also did the detective learn that Clemens didn’t actually retire from the NYPD, he was dishonorably discharged.
Clemens was arraigned on a single count of second-degree criminal possession of a forged instrument, a felony punishable by a maximum two and a third to seven-year prison term. He was ordered held on $2,500 bail and is scheduled to return to Stapleton Criminal Court.
