Rabbi Yissachar Dov Rokeach warned of the dangers of the Internet, while allowing its limited use. “Today there is a modern invention… called the Internet,” the Rabbi said at his speech to followers at the Belz Beis Midrash. “It brings with it great stumbling blocks, and there are many questions in this regard… It may be necessary for one’s livelihood and impossible to get along without it. One must not bring it into the home, and it must be kept in a closed place where children cannot access it. Of course, it must be used only in order to earn a living and not for other things.”

The Belzer has always done his own thing (hasgocha, voting, etc..) and couldnt give two hoots about what anyone else thinks. He deserves credit just for that
    A very competent CEO indeed.

the disrespect of torah sages and tzadikim on this andother places is appalling. DIsagree with his positions…but do not publicly write that such and such rebbe is lusting for money etc. and other such epithets.

and the writers also know: that anything and everything can and is used against their own rabbis rebbes and tzadikim…they feel good for calling other rebbes anmes but don’t like when their rebbes are called names….

I’m not getting it, KUDOS PRAISE KUDOS!!!

    What’s there to praise here?

All the ‘Ra’bunem’ in america signed a petition (way back), that internet should only be used for business purposes, & in edition, filtered net(JNET etc.) should only be used!

There’s nothing new about this, & it appears the Rabbi isn’t suggestion/demanding, filtered net! So what’s all the praisings??

    בסד
Our family was in the computer industry from its inception, so my children learnt how to use computers before internet was invented, installed them at home when they grew up and established families and have taught their children how to safely negotiate the net, just as, in the physical world, we teach our children how to safely negotiate the roads and neighbourhoods. My eldest son’s home is networked, so he can supervise his children, as well as teach them. Our frum schule and Kollel in Sydney, Australia, communicates by internet. We need to have the community educated on the safe use of the internet. I am aware of other rebbes and rabbonim who have authorised limited use of the internet.

I too admire him for voting to expel Jews from their homes in Gush Katif.

As far as life insurance is concerned, If I were a Rebbe, I’d rather have Chasidim with a nice yerusha than a few shnorors.

This is the way a leader and an ohayv yisroel acts, talks and teaches.

Incidentally, the Belzer rebbe also encourages his chassidim to buy life insurance and even instructs them to consider a percentage of the premium payments as part of their maaser money.

With all the poseurs and incompetents today who present themselves as “gedolim”, the Belzer rebbe is truly someone to admire.

5:11 you are one of these nitpicking cynics who will even go so far as to make a fool out of yourself just to knock the other person.

Did you never bring your kid to work with you, etc.?

He is a person with a bright vision and really deals with situatuations in a very smart fashion. It’s really inceredible as to how he has changed in 15-20 years, and what he has built up in this time. KUDOS.

“One must not bring it into the home, and it must be kept in a closed place where children cannot access it.”

Can someone explain this? If you don’t bring it into your home, how can children access it?
