Hagerstown, MD - The Federal Bureau of Prisons says disgraced lobbyist Jack Abramoff has been released from prison and is in a halfway house.

Spokesman Edmond Ross said Wednesday that Abramoff was released Tuesday from a minimum-security federal prison camp in western Maryland and is at a halfway house somewhere in the mid-Atlantic region.

Abramoff was sentenced in 2006 to nearly six years in prison for a fraudulent Florida casino deal. He got another four-year sentence in 2008 in a separate case.

Ross says Abramoff could spend the last few weeks of his sentence on home confinement before his scheduled release date of Dec. 4.

A long-running Abramoff corruption investigation led to the convictions of a former congressman, Republican Bob Ney and other lobbyists and officials.

I happen to know the family from around the community and they are amazing upstanding people. Jack included. They are very caring people. Unfortunately mistakes were made and now the whole family wants a new start. We, as fellow yidden, should be open and accepting to make the creating of a new life for them successful.

not really, if you consider standing law to be big pull in higher ups. its a law. the amount you sit if good behavior, and you can get out on parole, is created by statute, not with pull. the only pull that can get you out of jail is a commutation of sentence, or a pardon. the boroughs of prisons answers to no one but executive branch positions!

Are you sick or just trying to be provocative and upset everyone.?? Why do yidden make heroes out of these convicted felons like Abrahmoff, Rubashkin, Grossman, etc. or those facing felony charges like those rabbonin in NJ? Abramoff was a mamash ganov who bribed federal officials, stole money from his clients while ridiculing them behind their backs? He left a yeshiva in Maryland in financial ruin and affirmed every negative sterotype of yidden among the goyim? He will never again hold a job in Washington in the public sector and hopefully will have to spend the rest of his life repaying the money he stole from his lobbying clients. And you should either get a new role model or do bigtime tshuvah for making a hero from such drech.

people get concurrent sentences all the time! the fact taht he had info the attornies general wanted, is not reason to say he pulled strings, no more than any other criminal who has info that could lead to more convictions. remeber, his info took down many politicians, including the vp's chief of staff (indirectly of course, but still happened because of him).

"Why do yidden make heroes out of these convicted felons like Abrahmoff, Rubashkin, Grossman, etc. or those facing felony charges like those rabbonin in NJ?"
1.Those in NJ have not been proven guilty - did you hear of presumption of innocence?! Besides, having FBI screaming with a foam in their mouth:"Rabbis this, Rabbis that", doesn't sit well with me. Most of those men were not rabbis. "Rabbi" was a code word for a "Jew." Specifying Jews, shows that FBI was prejudiced against us.
2.Rubashkin was acquitted of child labor. He was convicted of bank fraud - something that 90% of home/business owning Americans can be convicted of. Yet no one gets hard time for lying on their mortgage forms. Could it be that Rubashkin was singled out because he was a Jew who got some politicians angry? Just a thought...
3.Abrahmoff was working at a sewage plant called Washington,D.C. As Rubashkin can attest, if you don't grease the right politician at the right time, you/your business just might be targeted for a special investigation. Was Abrahmoff a sewage worker?-Yes. Did he do something that's not regularly done in Washington,D.C.?-No. Was Abrahmoff made a show of?-Yes. I wonder why...

I do know the details (at least those he admitted to) and yes, I do think he was guilty as charged. he was lucky to get such a short sentence.

The people who are claiming he has secret influences left and money hidden away have no idea of the reality. Every one of his political contacts were quick to bury him, and besides for the ENORMOUS fine levied against him by the federal government, he had just lost millions funding a doomed high school, along with the myriads of other cheseds he was involved with. Huge baal chessed as well as a genuinely kind person, I hope he is matzliach in putting his life and that of his family back together.

You mean as opposed to denying anything was ever done wrong, blaming the government and antisemitism, and name calling anyone who disagrees that there's a blood libel and a witch hunt? I like your plan.
