Ultra-Orthodox Jewish children whose fathers are sitting in Maasiyhu prison in Ramlla are protesting before the Shabat in front of the jail, on June 18 2010.Jerusalem - Dozens of children dressed in Shabbos clothes gathered around the Ma’asiyahu prison compound in support of their parents who were taken into custody after yesterday’s demonstrations.

Many of the children came bearing signs saying “Gut Shabbos, Abba”, “Abba, is a ten year old allowed to make Kiddush?” and “Free Abba”.  While some children were seen wiping away tears, others carried freshly baked Challahs.  Some even sang Zemiros and danced outside the prison walls.

Right on. These poor children are being exploited for maximum effect. I guess the chareidim are now catching on to the value of good PR.

Any reason why this turns out to be a fight between ashkenazim and sefardim? From some people it sounds like its a fight between the frum and chilonim. There are plenty of frum sefardim and ashkenaz chilonim. My take is that it is the same old askenaz mentality in EY which has always looked down upon the sefardim. The ashkenazim say that they are not against sefardim and proof is that they learn the sefardic rishonim. That's really a farce. What contemporary sefardim do they respect? You could probably count them on your fingers. Why so few? And those few have pretty much changed their religion to become totally ashkenaz or chasidish. They look, act and talk the same way, which means they converted. Its because as sefardim, they know clearly that they are looked down upon. Now its just in the open! They should repent and learn to live with their fellow jew looking up to them not down.

You can clearly see a sephardi charedi boy in the video. Parents on BOTH sides were arrested and children from both sides came to wish them Gut Shabbos.

Israel really needs another war. I hate to say it, but the rockets need to start falling on Yerushalayim. The Arabs need to start killing Sefardim and Ashkenazim alike. Only then will they realize that they are not that different after all.

No, the proof is that 30% of the students in the so-called Ashkanazic section are sphardim that play, eat, learn together with Ashkanazim and that 14 sphardim are in Jail for racism against themselves (per yoyr view), if that makes any sense to you.

The whole race issue is a farce made up by people trying create a machlokes and play victim when they are the oppressors. This is what Moran Rav Ovadaya said, not I. He clearly implied that Lalum is a Baal Machlokes and the same about anyone who was involved in going to the בגץ instead of Din Torah. So who does not respect the leaders of the Sphrdim, the Ashknazim or Lalum and Admond Levi SR"Y?

The truth is, it's about wanting to educate our kids with out any influence of TV and internet, that's the way we want it and we have that right in every country besides in E"Y. They want us to integrate, the torah says הן עם לבדד ישכון. What a Shame!

There are many Sephardi parents sitting also in prison, for the sam ereason. Their kids were in the same school of which you accuse them of racism. Difference is that they are frum, as are their kids. No racism - just kedusha and tahara, plus a major Kiddush Hashem.
Obviously you are so removed from kedusha and tahara that your values are goyish. Thats why you think it is racism.

Not sinas chinam - just good quality chinuch. I too would not let my children go to school with kds that are not on the same level of yiddishkeit. It's their right and duty. Nothing to do with skin color or background. The ultimate proof is that there are many Sefardim in jail too for the same "racism".
Shame on you.

I cant believe it !!! Yes sefardim and chareidim live different lifestyles so they should go to different yeshivas!! Just like there are chassidisha schools and bais yaakovs both are yidden both are frum different shitahs quite simple actually . Would you like it if your bais yaakov accepted all kind of kids and your kids are influenced? Not sure you have that kind of ahavas chesed in you!!

They use the same tactics as the Turks; publicize LIES.
This is what they did with the frum Meah Shearim woman
whom they have paralized at birth. They ruined a beautiful
family in order to save their face.
They did the same with the Yungerman whom they
fiddled into pleading for "killing" his child and then
had him incarcerated for a few years.
They are out to make the lives of frum yidden miserable, they
want them out of their eyes and lives.

So, what did these kids learn today?
This is only breeding hate.. Rediculous... This was more about making a video than saying good shabbos..

At 120 I'H when we pass, I wonder if g-d will ask if we're sfardi or ashkenaz or if your lubavitch or a bobver, or which satmar rebbe did you follow, and then asign you appropriately. If for even a second you look down at another jews minhagim or background, I guarantee you a nice warm seat in gehennim.

Im not the most learned person out there but as far as I remember,
Every time it mentions Yisrael in the torah, I dont recall even once it mentioning Ashkenaz or Sefard. When hashem gave the torah at har sinai, I dont remember learning that sfardim were not allowed over there.. Maybe im wrong, or maybe i missed that day in yeshiva....

Now ill answer what these kids learned today.. They learned that jews are not the same, they learned that we are NOT one nation, that we are many nations.

I learned today that we will not see mashiach till we become one nation again.

Good Shabbos Ashkenazim
Shabat Shalom Sfardim

These are parthetic "yidden" whose leaders have corrupted and cheapened our Torah over ages with radical politics of hate and racism in the name of God. If these are the ideal conditions for your Moshiach, then the perfect world is a rotten world.

Let them show the beautiful kids who these 200,000 so called Jews want to discriminate and treat them with inferiority or like animals with diseases all because they have different last-names, don't have European genes of blue eyes and light skin, and have slightly different customs of Jewish observance. Hashem's Yidden strive for a unified Jewish Nation where everyone is treated with dignity and equal respect, not bunch of tribes who believe their blood and customs is hollier than everyone else. These Yidden on the photos are generations of Apikores Jews who worship their Rebbes and Dynasties before they look into the Torah or God.

It has nothing with Racism and you know it. Does the school you send your children to not have rules as to what parents can and can't do? There were many Sephardim parents arrested. The differences these parents have has nothing to do with origin or skin color and everything to do with the level of chinuch they give thier children.

The Palestinians like to say that European Jews are not "real" Jews and now the Ashkenazim are playing right into that stereotype by refusing to have any contact with Mizrachi Jews.

I'm sick of unappreciative, uneducated people who distort history like the Arabs and Holocaust deniers do. Let me give you some reality check. Charedim in Israel live at the expense of "lesser Jews" you know the ones that you are taught to call apikores, sheigetz, chiloni Jews. The same Chiloni Jews that spend billions of hard earned money in taxes that Charedi politicians suck into their communities, schools, welfare programs, hatzolah, and hundreds of organizations that exist to support the Charedi world in Israel.
Secular Jews who build the state with sweat and blood while the Charedi Jews sat their looking and judging. Those sheigetz mothers that you teach your children to dislike sent their sons and daughters to die defending the small land so that Charedim can thrive in after the Holocaust and build their communities. The secular Israelis who have created unequal laws that only benefit Charedi families so that they don't send their children to the IDF. All you can do is compare the Secular Jewis to Communists Russians, Nazis and Greeks, all while enjoying their money and safety provided by them. All the state has asked is to stop discriminating against other Jews.

When I present questions, I expect answers. Firstly, this fact of 30% sfardim in the school. Very doubtful. I don't believe it at all. Unless you're talking about those sfardim which totally convert. Secondly, is this mentality of sfardim being second class not true? I've lived there and know first hand that its certainly the case. There's been a seperation between them (frum ones) for the longest time. Some Ashkenazim have a crooked view that the outside is more important than inside. Take a chassidish dressed family which don't have such great middos and put them against a sfardic family who dresses tzanua but modern and have wonderful middos. No doubt, the garb goes first. After you die your only garb is your torah and mitzvos with derech eretz. Your outside clothing won't do you any good.

This has nothing to do with sephardim and ashkenazim, just frum and non-frum. There were sephardim arrested as well, as their kids are in the frum track of the school.

Why would not frum people want to send their kids to a Charedi school?
this does not make any sense.

You can clearly see a sephardi charedi boy in the video. Parents on BOTH sides were arrested and children from both sides came to wish them Gut Shabbos.

For all of those that charge that the school in Emmanuel did not practice racism, Rav Ovadia actually said he believed there was. (He also said it should have never gone to the courts but thats a different issue). I choose to believe Rav Ovadia and not you. Ashkenazi racism, especially in schools, comes as no surprise to anyone. The only way to counter Ashkenazi elitism, which comes from the secular, traditional and Hareidi Ashkenazim is for all Sefaradim to put aside their political, cultural and ideological differences and vote Shas. Lets make Shas the largest party in the Knesset.

There are 14 sephardi fathers sitting in prison you say. I guess sephardi kids are not as close to their fathers as ashkenazi kids are In the video and the pictures above none of the kids look sephardi - no dark skin - all look chasidishe.

Do you realize how racist YOU are? There are many Sefardim who have skin as light as most Ashkenazim. Some of the edot are darker skinned (e.g. the Yemenites) but many are light-skinned (e.g. the Spanish Sefardim -- those descended from Jews who were expelled from Spain in 1492.) In yeshiva I knew quite a few bochurim who were Sephardic who could have past for Ashkenazim. (The same is true in reverse. There are not a few Ashkenazim with darker skin.)

But l'kavod Shabbat there is a way to go out and if chas v'shalom you really can't manage, you should stay home rather than disgrace the Melech!

Please can we send shoes and clothing aid to Emmanuel, these poor children obviously need it?

What's your point, that we abandon the Torah G-D has instructed us to follow? We enjoy their money, thank you, now what? Do we have to convert?

Yes it is a fact that there are 14 Sphardim in Jail as I speak, because of this case, where they refuse to have their kids with the other less frum Sphardim (and Askanasm).

Bais Yaackov in Emanuel has two sections and there are both races in both sections. In each section they both eat, learn and play together. Everyone is asked to fill out the same forms, so those that have TV or Internet are separated from the others. It just happens to be that in Emanuel there were more Sphardim that were sent to the less frum section.

What do you expect, if Sphardim in general have more TV in their homes than Asknazim, being that they have more Balei Tshuva. Nothing wrong with that, to the contrary they have more Emunah and are easier to bring back. With that comes a disadvantage that they cannon be integrated with the rest until they conform all the way. Slonim in general has more Sphardim in their mosdos than any other Askanazi Mosdos.

I agree if it's a 100% goverment funded (if it is) school than who is anyone to set guidelines besides the state. But the fact is it's subsidized only "partially" by the state.

So now that you acted and forced the school to take that wall down, why are 34 parents in Jail, including 14 Sphardim? All they said is, we want our children home until a new school is established.

"The entire debate between us revolves around whether the girls' blouses will be buttoned up to the wrist or 10 centimeters below the elbow. There's no argument about the fact that everyone, all the parents, meet the stringent requirements of halakha.…Once and for all, you have to understand that if the father wears a blue shirt that doesn't make the home any less a house of Torah. I have no problem if every group establishes a school. We didn't stop them from establishing a school on their own, we stopped them from taking control of an existing school, which receives [state money]. It was a hostile takeover and we had to act."

Dead wrong. The court forbids a private school, till they go first to this school.

I don't think it's very ehrlich when you shame your fellow holy Jews (Sepharadim). I don't think the Aibishter is shepping nachas by this charade. The Palestinians like to say that European Jews are not "real" Jews and now the Ashkenazim are playing right into that stereotype by refusing to have any contact with Mizrachi Jews.

Funny how those "racists" were holding those sephardim they"refuse to have contact with" on their shoulders.

Gosh, that's so sweet. Y'know what would be even sweeter? If these people followed the law, and didn't wind up using their own children as stage props for their protests.

What law?from some judges who ignore all the facts and declare a 30% sephrdic school racist? That's the law by you?

In this particular one there wasnt violence. I was reffering to other protests where the kids are running around like animals throwing rocks and burning cans. And besides, it is a chillul hashem in the regard as the world sees the divide between jews. There are other ways to go about this then to make a public spectacle of sinas chinum. Which is the way the world views it. And cud u imagine the power of these demonstrators instead of wasting the whole day making this chillul hashem there wud be an extra 100,000 people in beis medrash saying tehllim or learning? Ye i think that wud of made hashem happier

Rav elyashiv shlitah ordered the bachurim to go out of the beis hamidrash for this critcal cause,to show the high court that we follow the torah, not them. And beleive me he knows more about the power of learning torah, then you'll ever know. And it was a huge kiddus hashem, the singing and dancing ,and the parents, ashkenazim ans sephardim, looked so happy to be mekadish sheim shomayim. And there was such happy nigunim combined with sephardi selichos.A unbelivable event.p.s. why wre you mixing other events with this "protest",how's it relevant to this one.

You just called a distinguished frum judge a racist. He awaits your apology.

You mean he should apoligize for his chutzpadig remarks against rabbonim, and beg mechilah from the parents and children for the pain he caused them on a false charge.

It was Rav Ovadia's son who told the parents to go to secular courts. Rav Ovadia is right, of course; the parents only went to the secular courts when the school refused an summons to beit din. Had the school responded to the summons none of this would have happened.

I juat saw the false story being spread around ,it's totally false. It didn't,the start of this case, happen a few months ago. This case was filed a long time ago by someone who doens't even live in emmanuel! The whole sob story about those parents filing in court a few months ago is totally false.Look over the court papers if you like.

Time to Vote Shas en masse Says:

You mean the shas party what's not helping the sephardi parents here get out of jail on obviously false charges of racism?

STOP USING CHILDREN !
they should never be there and be part of the protest, leave them alone give them a chance to have a normal childhood, this is so brainwashing, you're making them future violent protestors, haters of the other jews, aka secular zionists jews, for what they "did" to their parents !
leave them their innocence, they are just kids

" Why did the Chabad Rebbe Z.L. go to civil court for old books?
Why did the Bobovers go to civil court for a decision who should
hand out Shirayim?
Why did Ponivez end in Civil court who should get Shlishi ?
Why did the Satmerers/Sziget have their dispute decided by an African judge ,who gets Shishi?
The Sfardim have the same Legitimate argument as all above Tsadikim.
They probably have more and better arguments than all above Tsadikim.
Chinuch Atzmai should have taken care of this problem/matter long ago instead of fights Mi Broish, Baumel-Lezerson-Gur-Lorentz-Porush and who should be the Mayoral candidate for the religious. Everything is Kine-Sina."
My Rov sounds right!

Why is everyone so defensive about Ashkenazim being accused of discrimination. Only in America is discrimination such a dirty word if its against blacks. But in Israel what's the big deal if Sephardim are discriminated against. Maybe its allowed in view of the fact that Sephardim never had reform or conservative sects. So they are more naïve and

you are very tolerant and when Ponevez or Bobov did go to court,
you call this Din Tora, you are a nice guy. After years of negotiations, the judges sent them to a Din Tora because they saw no end in the courts As you know there is still no end in their Din Toras. Ask Markowitz & Ungar/. You take no notice of Chabad, why? Face the Truth!
My Rov is a Gaon and Tsadik!!!!! +Chochom.

I understand both sides of the story ( and I'm not saying who is right or wrong because I don't know, all I know is what I would do if I was in such a situation but yet I'll never be Because I'll never be in another person's shoes) , but isn't "Kol Yisrael Areivim zeh l'zeh"? Here in NY, we are mixed, yet the parents make it very clear or hope so anyways that everyone has a different lifestyle and we should learn to respect it! All of sudden it became a problem?! What happened to achdus, as it says by MAtan Torah "V'yichan shum Yisrael" V'yichan because "k'ish achad b"lev achad"

kol tuv and moshiach Now!!!!!!!!!!

ps I strongly suggest that everyone read the rules before submitting your opinion
