Livingston Manor – Authorities have busted up a counterfeiting operation out of a home in Livingston Manor.

Early Wednesday, the sheriff’s department and U.S. secret service agents recovered $22,000 in counterfeit bills and $2,000 in hard currency, from a loft in a home at 181 Cattail Road. Authorities says the fake currency, which include $1, $20, $50 and $100 bills, have been passed in seven locations. Several of the bills were still in sheets waiting to be cut.

Authorities also recovered a small amount of cocaine, a large marijuana plant growing hydroponically, and illegal fireworks.

Arrested at the scene were Abigail Lager, 27, and Jose Bayron, 34, who live together at the residence. Both were charged with first-degree forgery and possession of a forged instrument, felonies. They were arraigned and taken to the Sullivan County jail on no bail.

“Given the economy in Sullivan County, a merchant or citizen who gets stuck with a phony $20 or $50 dollar bill experiences a real hardship,” Sheriff Michael Schiff said. “I am relieved that we were able to put these people out of business.”
