Zamberk, Czech – A 14-year-old boy with mental illness has been blamed for vandalizing the Jewish cemetery in the north-central Czech Republic.
Due to his condition, the unidentified boy will not face prosecution for pushing over or breaking 53 gravestones during the desecration at the 18th-century cemetery in Zamberk, near the Czech-Polish border, said Usti nad Orlici police spokeswoman Eva Sichrova.

Similar desecrations at Jewish cemeteries in other parts of the country have been blamed on right-wing extremists. But in this case “it was only a 14-year-old student from a special school who suffers from mental illness,” Sichrova said.
