It’s expected that one of the issues the consultative body will examine is chassidic schools that are operating without a permit and whose students are not being taught the province’s mandatory curriculum.
Levy said that the education ministry has told him of three schools that are allegedly not obeying the law: the secondary schools for boys operated by the Skver and Belzer communities, and the Rabbinical College of Canada’s high school, which is under Lubavitch auspices. They have a total of about 400 students, he said.

Not only are these schools unlicensed, they are not following the Regime Pedagogique. The Education Act stipulates that all children in Quebec from six to 16 years of age must be in a legal school program and taught the mandatory curriculum. This applies equally to schools receiving government funding or not, and to children who are home-schooled.
At the three schools in question, high school-age boys concentrate on religious studies.

note there are other yeshivas in Montreal that did not make the list and apparently do teach the minimum secular courses. If I recall correctly a certain percentage of all class instruction must be given in French.

They want you to educate your children so that they are capable of earning an honest living, or reactivate the “you shall not steal” clause in your bible.

If you do neither one-day we will be swamped with social services handouts or truck hijackers.

    > What is the mandatory curriculum?

So much math, science, social studies, English, French, arts, etc.

I recall someone once telling me what science class consisted of at his high school. The Rebbe walked into shiur one day and said; “The state regents require that we teach science in our Yeshiva. Observe the law of gravity.” He then removed his hat and dropped it onto his shtender.
