New York, NY - Mayor Michael Bloomberg is experiencing his lowest approval ratings in five years, according to a new Quinnipiac poll.

Only 55 percent of New Yorkers approve of the job Bloomberg is doing . The dip comes after Bloomberg’s controversial appointment of Cathleen Black, a former Hearst Magazines chairwoman with no educational experience, as chancellor of the city’s public schools.

Sixty-four percent of New York City voters believe that a chancellor needs education experience more than management experience, and 51 percent said Black does not have the right background for the job. A staggering 62 percent of voters with children in public schools disapprove of Black’s appointment.

Nearly half of New Yorkers polled — 48 percent — disapprove of the way the third-term mayor is handling the city’s schools, and 63 percent of voters are dissatisfied with the school system in general.

“The City Hall spin machine better shift into high gear. So far, all the negative news stories are murdering Cathleen Black — and not doing Mayor Michael Bloomberg much good, either,” said Maurice Carroll, director of the Quinnipiac University Polling Institute, said in a statement.

The poll was conducted from Nov. 16-21, surveying 1,287 New York City registered voters and has a margin of error of 2.7 percentage points.

Bloomberg comes across as a pompous, aristocratic individual. He is always lecturing the public, and assumes that the public cannot make sensible judgments. For example, during a recent heat wave, he told the public to drink plenty of water. When it was very cold, he told the public how to dress. Also, he tells the public to put up with the TSA, when in fact, he does not fly by commercial jet. During the Borough Park disorders of 2006, he was the only Jewish politician in NYC, who was silent about the police behavior. Every other Jewish politician in NYC condemned the NYCPD for their heavy handed reaction, which they would not have used in Bedford-Stuvesant, or in Bay Ridge. Yet, in 2009, the leaders of Borough Park welcomed him with open arms, when he was looking for votes. In 2002, he pushed for a memorial for the victims of the 2001 jet crash in the Rockaways. Yet, on Dec. 16th, 2010, it will be the 50th anniversary of the TWA-United collision over Staten Island. Why, Mr. Mayor, after 50 years, is there no memorial at 7th Avenue & Sterling place, in Park Slope (where the United jet crashed), or on Miller Field on Staten Island (where the TWA Constellation crashed)?

is that a difficult thing to rfealize he has turned from being a mayor into an emperial dictator forcing his euro centric concepts on new yorkers and they are rebelling
but after spending over a hundred million dollars on an election he won over a poorly financed democrat by only 4% points

Glad to see there are so many sane people out there. He is a pompous arrogant aloof individual who always speaks down to his subjects. Just listen to his Friday radio show with John Gambling & hear it drip thru your radio. FEH!

Its amazing how in the USA not USSR a mayor can litterly do whatever he feels like doing. Be it this black story, bike lanes , bp ft.hamilton, and on and on , with such arrogance and chutzpah, just catering to his own personal agenda.
