New York – A Baltimore scrap yard owner is accused of trying to sell $2.6 million in industrial metals, mostly nickel, after a Labor Day weekend heist from an importer. Sixty-five-year-old Alan Verschleisser has been charged in a federal criminal complaint with knowingly possessing stolen goods from an international shipment.

The stolen nickel briquettes were inside shipping containers and were worth $2.5 million. Also stolen was about 110,000 pounds of ferrochrome, worth around $100,000.
According to the complaint, Verchleisser’s scheme unraveled when he tried to sell the nickel briquettes to a Swiss-based supplier.
Authorities searched his scrap yard and recovered most of the stolen nickel.
Verschleisser was arrested as he tried to board a flight to Israel at a New York airport.
In other words he’s in the iron and STEAL business.
Flight risk to Israel. And that’s why most jews don’t get bail on bigger crimes. Rubashkin was 1
bring him back dreck needs him 4 the minyan
and then we wonder why so many tragedies befall us…. sigh.
wow this is crazy everyone loved al, always there to help you when ever it is needed i want to know what really happened
You right 8 but wrong; good deed prevent soros [tzoros] from klal Yisrael. That is why we daven together, say tehellim, learn etc. If he was doing go deed it would help the world. On Rosh Hashanah we look at this concept and realize even one more mitzvos can change the world FOR GOOD
According to VosIzNeias: “The goal of Vosizneias is to be a positive means of growth for Klal Yisroel.”
We are supposed to live by the laws of the land in which we live – and the law says INNOCENT till proven Guilty!
This jumping on the story as though it were truthful, absurd.
I have fair experience with people, and I’ve known Al for about twenty years: I would trust him with anything or everything I have.
Al’s company may have been trying to sell the material, and it may have been placed in the company yard, but that does not mean that Al was aware it was stolen. There is no direct indication of any criminal act on his part; from what I’ve been able to gather during the last few years, he has been phasing-out his involvement in his scrap metal business.
Knowing that many of the “facts” reported here (and all over the Baltimore media) are simply incorrect (e.g., he had postponed his annual trip to Israel long before all this, and was not at the airport when he was arrested), I await the disclosure of the full facts, and Al’s vindication.
He is Ponzi scammer Shereshevsky’s father-in-law.
#12 Thank you for being a mench. #13 what does a father in law have to do with his son in law. What ever that person did does not reflect what Al did. I’ve known him all my life. He has never stolen a thing. He gives and he helps his family, and his community. I am so saddened by reading all of this lushen Horah. Shame on all of you. First of all #2 he was never in New York getting on a plane. He knew he was not allowed to leave this country and he had already canceled the flight. Second of all Yes if some one does some thing wrong, it does affect all the other Jews. This is true. That is what happened to bring on the Holocaust. Like number 12 stated, Al is totally innocent. He is guilty of trying to find out a price for goods which were told to him that they were for sale. That is it, plan and simple. The stuff was on his lot was placed there with out his permission. He had been away from his place because his grandson has passed away. Where in the H— is your compassion for another human. How do you think he feels when all of these lies are being told about him. After all he has done to help other people where are they!! Why don’t they stand up for him. What is wrong with you
Update: So All charges in the USA have been dropped!!!!! Al is innocent people you should all be ashamed of yourselves. This is how you ruin a good persons name.
