Midwood, Brooklyn, NY – Five Jewish teenagers have been indicted in the attack on an Arab-American man in Brooklyn.
Kings County District Attorney Charles Hynes says the teens have been charged with gang assault and menacing.

According to prosecutors, the teens attacked the 24-year-old victim as he ate ice cream outside a Dunkin’ Donuts on the 1500 block of Avenue “M” in Brooklyn section of NY last October. One of the teens knocked the ice cream from the man’s hands as another spit in his face while another teenager held the victim from behind so he couldn’t fight back calling him a “terrorist” and “Go back to your country”. One of the assailants was armed with a pair of brass knuckles and broke the victim’s nose.

Three of the suspects face up to 15 years in prison.

Orthodox teenagers indicted in hate crime
A New York grand jury indicted five Orthodox Jewish teenagers in a hate crime. Shlomi Bitton, Yossi Friedman, Benjamin Wasserman and two juveniles were charged with second-degree gang assault and third-degree menacing, according to a statement issued Thursday by Kings County District Attorney Charles Hynes and reported in Newsday. On Oct. 29, Shahid Amber, 24, an immigrant from Pakistan, was eating an ice cream outside a Brooklyn Dunkin’ Donuts when he was approached by a group of teenagers who taunted him, called him a terrorist, kicked and punched him and pushed him against a wall. He was treated for a broken nose and other injuries. The juveniles will be tried in family court; the three others face sentences of up to 15 years.

Yes, good idea – let’s make heros of these five morons. Five morons brutally attacking one person is certainly something to be proud of. Jews aren’t afraid of scum as long as there’s only one. Good thing that one Jewish kid had his brass knuckles with hime! Let’s see how it all pans out in the court of law now that they’ve been indicted. Then we’ll see who the real scum is.
the way i heard the story from a friend who knows the kids was that when they came out of the dunkin donuts the arab/muslim or whatever you want to call him started yelling anti semetic curses at our five yeshiva friends. they decided that instead of walking away like most of us would do they got in his face to show him that jews aren’t scared of scum. one thing led to the next and they beat the tar out of him. did he deserve it? probaly not. but i guarantee he’ll never yell at a jew again. I hope the schools that showed “Obsession” aren’t getting any state or federal assistance. If the right authorities find out, they could lose their funding or tax exempt status, if that’s the case. Do you think the public schools would show this movie to children? The Al Gore movie, “An Inconvenient Truth” is being banned in some schools in the U.S.A. Can you imagine if the general public found out about the movie “Obsession” being shown to school children in a school that may or may not be getting tax payer funded assistance in some form or another?
And to the guy who thinks Jews always get tougher sentences than non-Jews: Bull. Every minority group has the same distinction.

Pakistanis are not Arabs. They are Muslims. The majority of Muslims are not Arabs, and a significant number of Arabs are either Christians or Jews.
How much of the blame for this chillul Hashem is upon those who produced, endorsed, and screened the film “Obsession” in nearly every American Jewish community last summer? The film was shown in many shuls as part of the Tisha B’av commemoration.
Perhaps the film’s producers and endorsers should also stand trial for inducing and inciting these youngsters into a hate crime.
I feel as though these young people are victims of the hateful, anti Muslim propaganda that was screened in shuls, schools and community centers all summer and fall. I feel as though the Rabbis, Educators and community leaders who took part in promoting anti Muslim hate propaganda should also now step forward to defend these boys who more or less were “acting according to how they were instructed” in this film.
Will the promoters of Anti Muslim hate propaganda in our communities take responsibility for the damage they have caused, or will they simply allow these boys to be the scapegoats for what was a predictable reaction to a inciting propaganda of the film?
I would like to see some responsibility taking on the part of the Rabbis, teachers and organizations who promoted and approved of this film. Perhaps then, these boys might have a chance at defending themselves against the crimes with which they were charged and which they were surely induced into by the frenzy of anti Muslim hatred that permeated every Jewish community in the US last summer and fall.
