It was a statement by Postmaster General Patrick Donahoe (DON-ah-hew), who said that unless things change, the post office will run out of money by October, the end of this fiscal year.

Donahoe told the House post office subcommittee that without some important changes to the law the post office cannot survive as a self-financing entity.

What Type of Changes to the law ? Personally I’ve used the Usps for domestic shipping and was very happy. But when it comes to overseas they suck . why can’t they develop a tracking system like ups or Fedex ? with their cheap prices they could easily beat the others if their service would be the same. It takes a wopping 23 business days to get info on a lost international item from the usps whereas fedex and ups will tell u instantly where your item is. There’s a major gap to fill and as always government will do a lousy job. (then again they do a very good with domestic priority mail etc… it’s only a matter of why they can’t shape up a bit)

If they run out of money, they can just pay their bills with postal money orders.
