As of 7:30 Thursday night, flood warning were in effect for Cattaraugus, Ulster and Orange Counties. The entire state is under a flood watch, except for New York City and Long Island.
The State Emergency Operations Center was activated, and is being staffed with representatives of 12 different agencies to monitor the response to the weather.
The state warns that nearly half of all flash flood fatalities are vehicle related, and motorists are advised not to attempt to drive over a flooded road. As little as six inches of water, moving at just two miles per hour, can sweep cars off a road or bridge.
