William Hague says he told Defense Minister Ehud Barak — who is visiting London — that Britain is seriously concerned about Israeli settlement construction in the West Bank. He said the settlements “run contrary to peace.”

The two leaders met for talks Thursday. Hague said in a statement that they also discussed developments in Libya and Egypt, as well as the recent seizure of an arms shipment, allegedly bound from Iran to Gaza.

Hague said that if the shipment did originate in Iran it would offer further evidence of its intent to disrupt regional stability.

Israel should have initially (after the six day war) refrained from using the term ‘settlements’. If only Israel would called them by what they truly are, cities, they might have avoided their current plight vis a vis these settlements. Settlements give the impression and a sense of temporary dwelling vs cities solid and permanent.

Wait, isn’t it the Palestinians who refuse to have direct talks with the Israelis? What does the British FM mean when he says Israel needs to return to the talks. Israel never left. Why does the world always place the blame on Israel? Why does no one hold the Palestinians to task? Oh, because they are helpless children. Silly me for even asking!

Did he say how he feels now that protests have spread to Syria too? The entire Islamic Middle Eastern world is in turmoil and civil unrest and Hague wants Israel to be concerned with the Palis? Wait, give it time, they too will be fighting amongst themselves!

England long since ceased to be an important country. And if not for Liverpool, it would no longe be a useful one.
