    New York, NY – A study shows the average adult New Yorker is consuming double the amount of salt they need per day.

    The city’s Health Department says preliminary findings show the average adult in the city consumed 3,150 milligrams of sodium daily. The margin of error was plus or minus 116 milligrams.

    The national average is 3,400 milligrams daily. Health experts say most people should consume less than 2,300 milligrams of sodium daily. High-risk people and those over 51 should consume 1,500 milligrams daily.

    The city said Thursday they surveyed over 1,700 adults, testing urine samples collected over a 24-hour period.

    The complete study is scheduled to be released later this year.

    The Health Department also said seven companies had joined its nationwide salt reduction initiative, including Campbell Soup Company and Target Corp.

    Here comes Blumberg! First no trans fat, next no salt. Actually, his trans fat measures were a very good idea.

    There u go again mr communist.
    I have 2 options for u either u ban it completely like transfat or u raise taxes so high like cigarettes and u ban it from bars parks and where else u can think of.
    Btw mr mayor if u are looking for a new initiative u should take on sandwich cookies. Me and a few people I know eat to much of that. A latest study shows that u have to control everything I consume swallow or inhale how about u bug out of my life and I will live as I please in a country of freedom

    Pringles , the new 6.4 oz has half the salt and half the taste they completely killed it! ..Kraft initiative.

    I worry more about our meat. My mother always preferred to kasher the meat herself, and used an egg timer so there was 1 hour of salting – no less, maybe only a few minutes more. Now that most of the meat available to us is already kashered, I find that much of it has been oversalted, sometimes to the point at which it is barely edible. I sometimes get the impression they’re burying the meat in a barrel of salt and letting it sit overnight.
