Washington – A diplomat in Vienna says Japan’s radioactive fallout has reached Southern California, but first readings are “about a billion times beneath levels that would be health threatening.”

The diplomat, who has access to U.N. radiation tracking, was citing readings Friday from one of its California-based measuring stations. He asked for anonymity Friday because the Comprehensive Test Ban Treaty Organization does not make its data public.

What is the big tsimmis about some very low does of radiation levels reaching the West Coast? From 1946-1963, the USA and the Soviet Union set off hundreds of nuclear bombs in the atmosphere. Those hydrogen bombs were infinitely more powerful than the radiation leak at the nuclear power plant in northern Japan. Thbere was no mass panic then, when radiation levels were sent all over the world.
