Gaza – Hamas Says Will Withhold Fire if Israel Does

    13

Local Israeli children look at damage caused by a Kassam rocket which exploded in the front yard of a home, pocked by shrapnel holes, in the southern Israeli community of Sde Avraham, near the Egyptian border, earlier on 26 March 2011. The rocket was fired by Palestinian militants inside the Gaza Strip and is part of the increasing tensions along Israel's border with the Gaza Strip. EPA/JIM HOLLANDERGaza – Hamas said on Saturday that Gaza militants had agreed to halt their rocket fire at Israel if the Jewish state stops launching strikes against targets in the coastal territory.

Hamas spokesman Ismail Rudwan said after a meeting with faction heads over a surge in cross-border tensions with Israel, that militants were “committed as long as the occupation (Israel) was committed” to restore a de-facto ceasefire.

Faction representatives claimed the statement was meant to block Israel’s aggression towards residents of the Gaza Strip. They agreed a national consensus was required to help end internal Palestinian division.

Osama Al-Haj Ahmed of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine said at a press conference after the meeting that all factions were committed to a state of calm as long as Israel will be committed too. He stressed that “resistance was a legtimate right of our people to defend themselves.”

Ahmed added that the factions support the invitation extended to Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas to visit the Gaza Strip.

t is unclear what effect the Hamas statement will have. During the faction heads’ meeting a Qassam rocket was fired and exploded in an open area in the Eshkol Regional Council. No injuries or damage were reported.

What the heck does this mean. I will beat you up but when it comes to giving it back to you, then its a cease fire. The world will probably say that Israel is the one that doesn’t want to make peace

Sure! Now that they’re bracing for an Israeli mop up operation, they are running scared.

If Israel decides to honor this so called restraint, it will be answered with more cold blooded murders and even more rocket fire.

    Really? Hamas will cease fire?

I’m too much of a gentleman to say where they can stick their ceasefire.

The fact that there is still a member of the Hamas leadership left to ask for a ceasefire tells me that our job is not done yet.

Israel needs to do everything possible to kill every last member of the Hamas leadership while doing their best to prevent civilian deaths

This reminds me of a situation which occurred in a Hebrew school. Some bullies in a class were bullying and harassing another student. However, they were caught in the act by the Principal. The Principal demanded that they come to his office the following day. In the interim, one of the bullies had the chutzpah to threaten the student, for the situation the bully found himself in (being dealt with by the Principal). This chutzpadik is tantamount to Hamas. We’ve heard their hollow promises before; they state that they will stop firing rockets, only to continue firing.

I remember we had a few sick dogs around our yeshiva, they attacked and bit our bochurim on regular basis, we carried the sticks with us, but it didn’t help, and it continued for months..
Till one day someone called a sniper-shooter, the problem was solved in few hours, we never heard of those sick dogs anymore, no biting anymore and not even barking.
    Do you know why?
Becouse we didn’t have any sick dogs on our property!
I think – the situation is very similiar, and solution is already tested!
