Rep. Anthony Weiner has racked up nearly $2,180 in parking tickets in Washington, DC from 2007 to early this month, according to an investigation by Capitol Hill paper Roll Call.

DC records show Weiner only just paid them off, Roll Call said.

Weiner has griped repeatedly about parking tickets racked up by United Nations diplomats in New York. A year ago, he issued a press release complaining that foreign governments owed $18 million in parking tickets.

“It’s insulting to all New Yorkers that countries like Yemen, Zimbabwe and Iran owe the city millions in unpaid parking tickets,” Weiner said then.

My take is simple. He accumulated this much in parking tickets because he either did not respect the law, or he considered himself above the law. Regardless, this is not someone whose values are worthy of becoming president, which we were just informed is a serious consideration. I would hope we can get someone who has higher values.

Chashuve public officials like Cong. Wiener should not have to worry about parking tickets while dealing with all the critical problems facing congress. They should discipline the policemen who issued the tickets since he is not subject to the parking laws.

Yeara ago, in order to become a New York City Police Department Patrolman (now called police officer), one’s backgorund was extensively checked. If someone had any unpaid parking tickets, he would not be appointed to the force. Today, candidates with criminal records are hired.
