The first state to join the Environmental Protection Agency’s Responsible Appliance Disposal Program was West Virginia.
The New York State Energy Research and Development Authority will promote the voluntary program to retail and wholesale companies, which will recover ozone-depleting chemicals from old refrigerators, freezers, air conditioners and dehumidifiers.
The program comes on the heels of New York’s Great Appliance Swap-Out, during which more than 164,000 residents have replaced old appliances with Energy Star ones. About 70% of participants have recycled their old appliances.
Nu. When does it start? How does it work?
Where can I pick up a check? If its a govt program it surely pays to be part of
Good. The banning of most CFCs closed the ozone hole and substantially reduced UV levels over much of the world. Since CFCs destroy ozone catalytically – the same molecule can keep on doing damage for decades – every bit recovered is a good thing.
