In a meeting with a joint high level delegation of the World Jewish Congress (WJC) and the Latin American Jewish congress in Bogota on Wednesday Santos reaffirmed the government’s position on this issue, allaying Israeli fears that Colombia will be pressured to join the ranks of other Latin American States who have recently recognized the yet to be established Arab State.

Santos emphasized that the only path to peace in the Middle East was through direct negotiations between Israel and Palestine. The speech was warmly received by the delegation. A tacit understanding that Bogota will oppose the Iranian regime’s influence on the region was also reached.

Colombia has been a friend of the US and Israel for a long time. They are joined with the US in fighting the illegal drug problem there. Many senior Colombian officials and their families have been threatened and harmed because of this.

Nice to see a Latin American President with a good sense of morality. Colombia President Juan Manuel Santos stands out in an area of the world that has been less than supportive towards Israel.

It is clear that treachery does not endure. A seed in a land called South America will grow to a life and a life to a way of life. So this is good news of course. And you didn’t think that a whole continent might go saavy to the interests of an unorthodox people living in another person’s land despite their history of having a house on that soil for a few years after the original owners had gone on sabbatical. Thats good news and we can be sure that peace and prosperity will endure in the Southern Hemisphere.

Colombia was our closest friend and ally in the past, and I hope will be again once we get over this dark period in our history. Colombia was on the fast track to sign a free trade agreement with our country that would actually benefit us more than them. All this ended when the man who wishes our country harm became Presdident. He openly sides with Chavez, Ortega and another thug in Honduras who was on the way to becime Chavez. And Colombia is in the dog house.
