Brooklyn, NY – Forget the iPad 2 – the latest must-have is a $1,500 double stroller that is sold out before it even hits the stores.

Bugaboo launches its new set of wheels – called The Donkey – at a red carpet event in New York Thursday that will resemble a grand unveiling at an auto show.
Mimicking the clamor for the Porsche Cayenne, thousands of excited parents have ordered the convertible stroller and been placed on wait lists.
Even with the high price tag, it’s selling faster than Tickle Me Elmo.
At a sneak preview for the Daily News, Kari Boiler, president of Bugaboo Americas, said the demand was unprecedented.
The Donkey’s main draw is its expandable frame. It transforms from a one-seater to a two-seater, solving the issue of fitting a second child without having to buy a new one. Kids can sit side-by-side or face each other.
As a one-seater, it is 23 inches wide, the same as Bugaboo’s top-selling Cameleon, but has a removable side basket for diaper bags, toys and groceries.
As a two-seater, it is a relatively slinky 29 inches wide, which Bugaboos says will make for easy negotiation of sidewalks, doorways and shopping aisles.
There’s also an element of keeping up with the Joneses.
“People are always eyeing up each other’s strollers.”
I bought my first used car for $1,500.00. For that price it shoud come with air and a radio too.
Whats the big deal about this “donkey” stroller…we got one for our grandkids and it cost less than $1200 (not 1500) but its worth it. Solidly built and very flexible. I cannot understand why the article makes it sound like some extravagance. We waste more money on a weekend getaway or a wedding gift for someone we hardly know. To provide such a basic and important item for the kids is really important and should be a priority for all parents.
As a single carriage it looks kinda nerdy, but now all the companies are gonno imitate and all you’re gonna be able to buy is wannabe bugaboo look alikes.
Coming soon to the local WIC office.
At first I thought it was absurd who would spend so much on a carriage but then I added up how much I spend on my bugaboo and double it adds up to 1200 too.plus this takes up less room its just one carriage
what’s next?! and for what price?! soon they’ll be asking if the mechutonim will buy this? I think I’m going to be sick!
just ask your parents how much they payed for the sliver cross carriage o’ and they needed another small one for traveling just find out and then talk
China will sell a knock off for $49.99
Like the new strollers or not, things have sure changed since my kids were in massive “Built Rite” carriges in the 1970’s. Heavy and near impossible to transport but had crome wheel covers, white wall tires and did look great. Somewhat like the cars of that era.
Its not more than crazy, who ever gets that is showing every one that he is spending money to try to impress others, cuz can’t a baby be strolled in a 500$ carriage ??
It has to be bugaboo especially if u live in williamsburg or bp where last I heard the streets are basically level no hills but its th5e style 1500 for a carriage graco sells for under 100 kee5ps kids just as safe no wonder there are tea parties every day
$1200 -1500 is a ridicules amount to spend on a carriage. You will see all shnorers from town pushing that nerdy carriage.
and i thought this is a april 1st fool joke…
Observation:
Usually the young parents with the bugaboo’s are the one’s who didn’t have to spend their own money on a stroller…
Gee. I had to raise my poor kids with a 10 dollar umbroller. It’s a wonder they found shidduchim. If I had had the other fourteen hundred ninety dollars, which I didn’t, I probably would have used it to pay for 6 months of rent.
You expect the baby to walk?
I’m all for if you don’t have the money don’t spend just to keep up with the jonses, however, my bugaboo held up beautifully and I was able to use it from one kid to the other and didn’t have to go out and buy a new one with each child. It is something I use every day, it holds up beautifully and worth every penny! I know of many people who go through a carriage per child and I don’t see how they are paying less than those who invest in a good carriage and don’t need to buy a new one per child.
How about a “loaded” donkey with added bells and whistles.
Then you will really keep up with the Dweks.
Go ahead and enjoy your new bugaboo and take it to the bungallow for the summer and make sure you go to Switzerland for 10 days on your way back from Israel and then visit Woodbury Common..After you all done please contact me for a credit card loan modification and also a short sale on your home…
Its just as worth as a $150 meal you spend in a restaurant and its gone in an hour or two . You could have prepared the meal at home for $10 . Ten meals and you have a bugaboooo
Perfect for frum families with many kids – its black
Anything over $1200 is extravagant
So should I order two? One for Pesach and one for the rest of the year?
saw them already in boro park and williamsberg
I have eight children. Are they going to make one that holds eight?
How will I get down the block?
I might get ticketed for this…what will I do? I’ll spend more
on tickets than its original cost.
I’ll just have to work harder, I guess.
Thank you.
In these days of economic issues 1500 is a little too much – but if you CAN afford it – go for it!
Amazing! How did I manage raising 9 kids with my Perego convertible carriage (had a bassinet and a stroller, used the same frame) and only cost $115.
If you’re going to have 15 kids and you are going to want your stroller to last, this will come out to $150 per kid, not too bad. The question is will you want to use it that long because newer and better stuff will be coming out all the time. Also do all the accessories come along with it for that price or do you have to shell out more money?
Do banks give mortgages on strollers?
Maybe some enterprising company will lease them, so every couple of years you can get the newest model.
How about an electric version, so the princesses pushing it don’t have to be fatigued?
My wife put over 400 miles on her uppa. Can you do that with a $200 stroller? I don’t think so.
anyone have any contact info on bugaboo? i have a really great product idea for them and would love to discuss it.
