Dov Hikind – Even as public universities got a 10 percent cut, $18 million was doled out for tuition assistance to rabbinical schools in this year’s budget. And no one has been pushing for that funding harder, or longer, than Assembly Member Dov Hiking, the dean of Boro Park politics. Year after year, Hikind’s efforts had been thwarted, but somehow, he secured the funding during one of the worst budget crunches in memory. Rumors had been circulating that Hikind might face a serious challenge in 2012. With this feather in his yarmulke, those rumors can likely be put to rest.
