Mr. Obama met Tuesday at the White House with Israeli President Shimon Peres, and was presented with an invitation to visit the Jewish state in the coming months, according to Israeli officials. Many Israeli public commentators have clamored for the U.S. president to make the trip, arguing he’s already visited key Middle East capitals, such as Cairo and Istanbul.

Israel’s public has proven skeptical of Mr.  Obama, due to his highly public spats with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu over the issue of Jewish construction in disputed territories. President Peres is believed to have a more amicable relationship with Mr. Obama and is paving the way for a spring visit by Israel’s prime minister.

One potential target date for an Obama visit to Israel is late June.  Mr. Peres annually holds his Israeli Presidential Conference that month in which a number of world leaders normally attend.

“There has been no commitment, though,” said an official briefed on the meeting between Messrs. Obama and Peres.

Why should he visit Israel when Israeli government officials deliberately tried to embarrass his Vice President on a visit? Far more hostile countries have not pulled this kind of stunt. Netanyahu need to rein in his ministers.

Good, I agree he should stay home and work on our problems first (ie high unemployment, potential gov’t shut down, out of control inflation, rising oil prices etc.)before trying solve the rest of the world’s problems. Think about it, all the countries he visited in the past few years are all messed up now (ie Egypt, Syria and the list goes on). If I was the PM of Israel, I would say thanks but no thanks.

Peres is just trouble for Israel . He caused many problems that resulted in the division of israel, Hatred towards the frum community and encouraged the PLO to raise their flag in Israel.

To #7 - Shimon Peres was known as Ben-Gurion’s “puppy”. Also, he never served one day in uniform in the service of the IDF. Secondly, Barack Hussein Obama is only considering visiting EY, because of the pending 2012 election. Recently, Obama met with with Al Sharpton, one of the instigators of the 1991 Crown Heights pogrom. He constantly vacillates, and cannot make a definitive decision. Whereas former Presidents were always seen with their pooches (i.e. FDR with Fala, Nixon with King Timahoe, Bush #41 with Millie, Bush #43 with Barney), Obama is never shown with Bo.
