How come the Woodmere Fire Dept. didn’t respond? This is the second fire in that area in the last year, the last one resulting in a death.

Rabbi Ross and his family are unbelievable people. They do so much for the yeshiva and the community. Even being “just a Rebbe”, as Rabbi Ross says, he has always tried to help others with tzedaka. If any one can help this wonderful family, please do. They deserve all the help they can get. I am “just a parent” of sons who have had the zchus to have Rabbi Ross as a Rebbe, and know how great he is. Please help and have a Chag Kosher V’Sameach.

#4 as usual you didn’t read my comments correctly. Read them again… It doesn’t matter Woodmere is still closer than Lawrence Cedarhurst, Inwood, East Rockaway and Lynbrook which were all there. I live down the block and I was amazed that they didn’t call the second closest department. Half the damage could have been avoided and a possible life could have been saved in the first instance. The homeowner should sue!

Why focus on hypothetical questions? Why not focus on helping this unfortunate family

If only every guy who wrote a comment on this case would donate $1000 towards this homless family we would feel worthy saying at our seder table Hoa Lachma Anya.
Open your heart and pockets. A Koshern Paysach

    Written by Rabbi Ross:

    To Whom It May Concern:
Words cannot possibly express how much the outpouring of caring and love has meant to us and our family. Although the fire destroyed our memories, Baruch Hashem we have a healthy family and we will create new memories. There are some facts that require clarification and if you would forward this E-mail on, it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks to our wonderful friends and family, we were never homeless. Thank you so very much, but we do not require linen (used or otherwise), pots or pans, clothing, furniture, or mattresses. If you would like to donate money, Chai Lifeline is an organization that helps families in crisis and you can Click Here to help support their wonderful cause. Baruch Hashem we had a mortgage (a pretty big one J) and therefore had home insurance as required by law. All we ask now is that you join us in thanking Hashem for letting us stay healthy, and that you please please make sure that you have smoke detectors in your bedrooms!

P.S. Please ask any website to take down every inaccurate article pertaining to this. Thanks!

I’m not pro any one dept. over then the other. I’m pro getting the job done either which way, I’m just nervous about what’s going to happen next time, and myself, as well as other neighbors are extremely concerned, as we have a right to be. I am glad that Rabbi Ross and his family are safe B”H but as a resident of the area, I don’t think my concern are out proportion. Woodmere FD or NYCFD I don’t think it matters, I’m just curious as to why they weren’t there? As I have a right too. A fire in Woodmere but no Woodmere Fire Dept. – seems a little funny? Just like a Hewlett fire without the Hewlett Fire Dept. would seem funny.

I just asked some in the the know in the fire service what could have happened re. which department responded. Was the initial call made directly to the HFD or was it a 911 call. There is the chance that if it was a 911 call it could have be an operator error or the 911 system has that address showing HFD as the first due department. A lot has to do with how the Nassau County 911 system views an address and in which departments juristiction an address appears. Also factoring in is the availablity of a proper department response. These are volunteer departments which sometimes can be shorthanded or being deployed elsewhere. I would say at this point the main issue is the fact that Rabbi Ross and his family are alive and well, and for that we should all be grateful!!!!
Every house or apartment should have working smoke dectectors and ABC rated fire extinguishers. ABC rated units cover the three main types of fire. A= trash, wood paper…B=liquids, grease…C= electrical equipment and wires. Each family should have a plan for escape in case of fire, and that plan should include a head count of all people in the house or apartment before they reach safety and after.
