An unusual meeting took place at the home of one of the leading figures in the haredi world, Rabbi Chaim Kanievsky, who invited Rabbi Yehuda Glick to his Bnei Brak home to hear more about Glick’s Pessah endeavor.

With two goat kids in tow, Glick – who established the Chafetz Haim Holy Temple Heritage Foundation two years ago – showed the senior Lithuanian rabbi that one of the kids had a standard tag clipped to its ear, while the other didn’t. Such clips are an Agriculture Ministry requisite, but Glick recently reached understandings with the ministry that a certain amount of kids would not be marked in such a manner until after Pessah, so that if the ancient sacrifice is miraculously reinstated by this year’s holiday, two weeks away, Jews might be able to fulfill that commandment.

Animals with a physical imperfection, even a minor one such as an ear clip, are disqualified as sacrificial material.

However, till the time for the sacrifices comes, Glick will not be conducting the ancient ritual.

In the interim, he is collecting NIS 12 donations from people that will be used to buy animals that can be sacrificed, if the opportunity rises. The commandment regarding Pessah sacrifices states that a sheep or goat aged up to one year may be used, so cattle raisers working with Glick can clip their livestocks’ ears once they reach that age.

“This is the first mitzvah in the Torah for everyone – men, women, children – that must be obeyed every year at the threat of karet [excommunication],” Glick said of the importance of the sacrifice on Tuesday.

He noted the wide support of leading rabbis for his initiative, including from Chabad-member and Kiryat Motzkin Chief Rabbi David Meir Druckman, Safed Chief Rabbi Shmuel Eliahu, Rabbi Benaya Shmueli, the Admor of Erloy Hassidic court, Rabbi Shmuel Shapira and of course Kanievsky. This is not the first time Glick’s organization, which primarily teaches and lectures in schools and seminars about the Temple, has undertaken this endeavor ahead of Pessah, but this year there seems to be extra interest, as evident in the invitation from Kanievsky, who endorsed the idea, while warning that one should not think that the animals are being dedicated as sacrifices, an act that would only happen when the time for sacrifices arrives.

Asked what his organization will do with the money accumulated if redemption does not come in time for this Pessah and sacrifices are not offered, Glick said that half of the funds would go to charity, and half to yeshivas and kollels dedicated to studying about the Third Temple.

Learning about the religious and historical significance of the korban pesach and korbanos in general is a great idea but hopefully we have heard the last of that idiotic comment from some rav in BB that paskined that yidden had some chiyuv to go up to the har habayis with a sheep or goat and actuall bring a korban.

I’m supprised that Reb Chaim had extra time to waste with this guy. I’m sure that he didn’t intend to endorse these meshugasin. Hopefully after reading this article Reb Chaim will come out and clariffy his stance on this matter

I don’t think that r kanievsky is nearly as obcessed with this korban pesach shtick and doesn’t support creating a tumult with the arabs. In fact, Kanievsky is generally a moderate when it comes to these types of political charades.

meshugasin? Did I misread because it seems to be that you think that learning TORAH and preparing for the immanent geula shelaima.
You are clearly unfamiliar with the writings and initiatives of The Chofetz Chaim and other GEDOLEI YISROEL who encouraged learning about halachos which will be applicable when we have the Beis Hamikdosh/can bring karbanos.
That’s why the Chofetz Chaim was a supporter of starting kollelim and such for learning Kodshim.

But I’m sure you know better than the Chofetz Chaim, and HaRav HaGaon R’ Kanievsky, etc.

Besides, believing in and awaiting the coming of Moshiach isn’t one of the ikarim if yiddishkeit. NOT.

Im sure harav glick was misquoted in saying that both women and children are chayav kares if they don’t bring a korban pesach. That is not the case.

The ONLY reason not to bring a korban Pesach today is because of the police not giving permission. It is a korban yachid not a korban tzibbur (so no need for machatzis hashekel), no chiyuv to be brought with the Beis Hamikdash only on the makom hamizbayach and even though we’re all tamei, we say tumah hutra b’tzibbur.

There isn’t a single posek from the days of the Rambam until today who disagrees with any of the above. That is why Rav Kanievsky, Rav Druckman, Rav Shmuel Eliahu, Rav Shmueli, and Rav Shmuel Shapira all agree. Too bad the first three comments above didn’t know that or else they would not have called these g’dolim engaged in “shtick.”

This is a leftover Purim joke – these so called ‘rabbis’ are making a mockery out of real torah laws and should be banned for life and ousted immediately if not soooner!

The mainstream rabbis are correct in not mandating this yet. It will result in either the ones performing it being possul, or everyone else as karet. If this gets restored, how will everyone be able to physically get to Jerusalem to fulfill it? Honestly, I think the difficulty isn’t with the Arabs but the accommodation. There aren’t enough korbanos, hotel rooms or flights to get us all there.

It is important to learn the halachos because then it is considered that you did the mitzvah – this is why we read karbanos before davening, and read seder korban pesach before maariv on the seder night

Firstly, apartment buildings are useless for this purpose. You can only eat Korban Pesach on the ground floor (גגין ועליות לא נתקדשו)
Second, R’ Akiva Eiger says you cannot bring Korban Pesach nowadays even if the police allow it. R’ Dovid Karliner also says you cannot bring Korban Pesach nowadays.
