Troop T, the state police division that covers the Thruway, issued 879 tickets to violators of the cell phone law during the four-day “Operation Hang Up” last spring. Members of Troop T issued 8,172 tickets during all of last year for cell phone scofflaws.
The crackdown is in effect Monday through Thursday.
Violators who are ticketed face a maximum fine of $100 and a mandatory $60 surcharge. It is also illegal in New York state to text message, surf the Internet or play computer games while driving. The maximum fine is $150.
What does it take to get people to get off their phones while driving 70 – 80 mph. Distracted driving leads to problems.
i was a driver for nbc-universal some 10 years ago when i got one while i was double parket at 30 rock…. easiest i remember a fast $75. ticket 3:15 am no such thing as a seatbelt law for a towncar.
“State law prohibits the use of a hand-held cellphones while driving except to call 911. The maximum fine is $100 plus a $60 surcharge. Texting or Internet use on a hand-held device while driving is also illegal in New York and carries a maximum fine of $150.”
What could be clearer than that? No ifs, no buts. But above all, NO PILPUL!
I agree about the law but this cop that gives the ticket will be the one talking on the cell phone himself hand held no headphones.

What are you talking about? Are you saying that you shouldn’t wear a seat belt while driving a Lincoln Town Car, and shouldn’t be ticketed for that offense?
