State Senator Martin Golden hit bus stops and boarded buses Thursday morning to tell commuters the good news: starting July 1st, express bus service that was cut by the Metropolitan Transportation Authority will be restored.
Bus riders who take the X27, X28, X37 and X38 say they are thrilled.
One reason for the MTA’s change of heart is a lawsuit filed by Golden, City Councilman Vincent Gentile and some of the elderly and disabled residents in the affected Bay Ridge, Bensonhurst, Dyker Heights and Bath Beach communities. The suit charges the cuts violated the Americans with Disabilities Act.
“The allegations in the lawsuit are that there’s a disparate impact in this community compared to others. There’s a higher number of disabled and seniors in this naturally occurring retirement community, quite frankly, than in other parts of the city,” said Attorney Matthew Daus.
But the battle with the MTA is not over. Commuters say they want weekend express bus service to be brought back as well.
Golden says he will tackle that fight next.

Bring back the 16th Ave BUS!
WHAT ABOUT THE X-29 BUS????????
Why doesn’t Greenfield and the other politicians covering Flatbush and Midwood fight as hard as Goldin does for the residents of Bensonhurst and Bay Ridge. You will notice the X-29 Express Bus that used to run along Coney Island Avenue serving the heimeshe olam going to work every day has not been restored. Shame on the MTA.
Trump Village and Warbass are also Naturally Occuring Retirement Communities and have a higher percentage of elderly than anywhere else in the City, so why doesn’t the MTA restore our express bus service? It is because our representative Carl Kruger was taking bribes and not paying attention to his constiuents?
Dont put back the 16th ave. bus…so much easier to park now while shopping …i support neighborhood stores that have plenty parking…
Since most of the drivers probably come from those areas being restored with the service they are getting preferential treatment. Not necessarily anti-Semitic.
This is an absolute outrage, they are bringing back the other expresses buses but not the one bus that most of us ride on which is the X-29
Why aren’t people protesting? Write to Jay Walder, head of the MTA, let them hear our voice.
