Ramapo Town Police said a 20-year-old female resident of the village was struck as she walked on Ostereh Boulevard in the roadway. The driver of the car, a 61-year-old New Square man, was making a left turn onto the road when the front passenger side corner of his car struck the woman, police said.

She was taken to Westchester Medical Center by Hatzolah Ambulance for treatment of lower torso injuries that were not believed to be life threatening, police said.

On Friday, a two-year-old girl was struck and killed by a vehicle as she walked with her mother in a parking lot in the village, (as was first reported here on Vos Iz Neias).

I think there is an important message here “drivers- drive safely” “pedestrians- watch how you walk” and both of you put away that smart phone!

As a monsey driver I can tell you that people run in front of cars all the time. They don’t realize that monsey isn’t a farm anymore.

A few days ago I visited New Square to pick up two grandchildren, in the very shopping center where R”L a little child was killed by a car a day later. I remarked to my grandchildren how dangerous the driving is in New Square. It is as if the regular rules of driving do not apply, and people routinely ignore common sense rules of driving. As I was saying this, I was making a turn from a two way street right onto another two way street. A van suddenly passed me and made the same turn as me, outside of my car, thereby driving on the wrong side of both streets, against the traffic.
People walk in the middle of the streets, ignoring the sidewalks, little children play in the middle of the street where the cars are driving, people park on both side of narrow streets (many times the wrong way), making the driving a snaking obstacle course, where you have to wait for other cars to go by before you can proceed. In addition, people park wherever they want, ignoring parking rules.
In my humble opinion the community leaders should address these problems to make New Square a safer place to drive.

There should be a fine for the people walking while texting!
They don’t even think of looking before crossing!

Its Erev Yomtov for all of us, you know..PLEASE drive carefully. We ALL have things to do but we want to make it to the Sedorim in one piece!! How would you like it if CHV that was YOUR child, hurt by someone in a ‘rush”???
